Importing a RHD 1995 FD

I recently decided to look into importing a rx7 as opposed to buying one stateside, after not being able to find one relatively low priced in decent condition in my price range. I'm trying to find out what the restrictions are when trying to import a RHD rx7. I've done some looking but everything I can find is several years old and I want to make sure I have as much knowledge that's up to date on this before I try to import the car.

Your probably gonna get flamed for this, However it can be done and done legally. But its not going to happen. The insane amount of hoops you would have to jump through and communication to the right people in Japan to get the documents necessary is staggering.
If you do go through all the necessary procedures to bring one you better bring 10 just to make it worth the effort.

Read all the importing documents on the NHTSA site about this. If that doesn't scare you off then go for it!!

Good luck.

BTW it took over 3 months just to get mine titled and registered so be ready to not drive it for awhile!!

if your just using your RHD car for track use then it will be fine, anything else and youll be SOL. RHD cars are very illegal in the USA unless your planning on moving up to canada some time soon

Don't post if you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about...

OP, Rx-7's actually seem to be one of the easier cars to import as there are only minor changes that need to be made. You'll need your export paperwork, replace the glass with DOT approved glass and replace the exhaust. It'll need emissions tested and inspected then you'll be good to go.

RHD is illegal in the US :greenchai says the guy from Canada

The USPS (united states postal service) are such a bunch of scofflaws.
