GB Feeler: Carbon Fiber Interior Overlays
Like the ones Mark Koch did in the past, where the overlays actually wraps over all the edges and leaves no plastic peeking out like other brands/variations...
I'm sure there's quite a few people with a bit of peeling on the stock plastic pieces, adding some real carbon fiber is a great touch inside the RX7! These aren't available yet...we're gathering interest to see if there's enough to warrant making them.

HARD2B, please note these will be LHD-specific. The interior parts are different, depending on whether you have a LHD or RHD FD. RHD CF overlays are already readily available; it's the LHD ones we still have to make.
Thanks, ~Ramy |
Now when you say overlays you mean just an adhesive or a full solid replacement?
|
so the one that are showing in the pics are RHD? if is it then mine are on the LHD.
what are the interior parts different between LHD and RHD? |

So, just to be sure, the proposed pieces would be adhesive stickers that are "molded" to fit the contours of the interior trim.
If so I'm all in. And as much as I'd like true CF replacements, those would definitely be way too expensive. |
I'm not sure how Ramy will make the pieces but I can at least clarify some things about mine. The CF is not a "sticker". Basically, I had to send in my plastic pieces that I wanted to cover. Mark Koch then would sand and rough the surface up. After which, he would apply an adhesive and then the carbon fiber over it. He would then need to trim the CF and finally apply and buff the clear coat.
The problem with this is that you can get de-lamination. That is, if you are not careful and pull on the corner, the CF can start to separate. Also, if the person doing the work is not careful, you can get pockets of air promoting de-lamination. Finally, if you look carefully at my turn signals, Mark had to cut them to be circles because he said it was too difficult to mold the CF around that area. However, I do remember Sonix being able to do this, though he did not have as good results in quality (hence the drama with that). |
A thing to think about is styling 3 years from now if you are going to keep the car. Are you going to still like the CF interior, much like redoing a paint job with stripes etc. Are you going to enjoy that look later on. With that, it sounds like if that's a no, then you'd have to get all new interior pieces since you can't just pull it off like a sticker.

anyone know what something like this might go for$?

Hey guys,
A few things... 1) Wrapping a piece in CF is FAR from ideal. It's time consuming, done by hand, which means results may vary, as it will be subject to imperfections. It's just not the way to go. 2) What I'm talking about would be just like what 7racer mentioned, except instead of having to send your piece in, we use a "demo" piece if you will, hack it up as needed, then when we get the exact shape for the CF, we make a "mold" for it, finish the CF completely in a nice thick clearcoat (to avoid the air pockets), and apply an adhesive backside to it. So all you'd have to do is clean your panel thoroughly, leave to dry, then pull the back paper off of the CF piece, and stick it onto your panel. IF this goes through to production: - Will be GENUINE carbon fiber (not "look like" or paint) - Will prob utilize 3M low-profile automotive adhesive - Will be precision cut to fit the panels EXACTLY - Will be prefinished in a high gloss UV protective coating (so no fading or dullness over time) - Will be a COMPLETE ten (10) piece kit: Gauge Panel, A/C panel, DIN door, shifter console (auto shifter surround also available), ashtray trim, driver side door panel trim, driver side cubby lid and corner, passenger side door panel pocket 3) For you guys w/ RHD FDs, email me and I can place your orders separately, as those are already available. Thanks, ~Ramy |
I would buy a complete kit as soon as it becomes available.
