Visiting the Re Amemiya shop
 

Well i got here last week to Okinawa. Stationed on a Marine Corps base here and have been thinking about visiting the amemiya shop and some other shops in the area. Has anyone done this before or know anyone that knows some good shops out here?

On a different note does the locals have a website to keep track of meets out here? Been told na ha is the place to go for car viewing. So far Ive only seen 2 7's on Camp Foster (not my duty station).

Amemiya and most the big rotary tuners are on mainland Japan and more or less around the Kanto/Tokyo area. There are a number of rotary guys in Okinawa I believe but I do not know any shop names. There is an event Sticky in this section at the top I believe but I don't think it has been used much lately. The next big Rotary meet will be 7/7/11 July 7th that is. The Kanto area usually has some sort of a track event/ meet and then everyone goes to Daikoku futo parking at night. In or near Okinawa I am sure there is something as well but I am not sure.

I heard here in okinawa naha has a track and apparently is where a lot of imports are from what im told by another marine.

I was thinking about getting the email address off the amemiya website and emailing them about visiting. Not sure if i can just walk in and check out the shop or not. And yes i seen on wiki that the shop is in a town called Shiba. Not sure how correct that is though.

It would just be nice to connect with some rotor heads out here. Here on just one base theres more skylines then anything else modified...Ive grown numb to em already lol.

Don't take this the wrong way, but the Marine that told you about a track in Naha is full of shit. There is no track in Naha. There is (basically) no real track on Okinawa at all.

There are 2 parking lots on Okinawa that are used as autocross/drift tracks. There are... basically zero rotary specific shops on Okinawa. There are a couple of tuner shops but, the car scene here (on Okinawa) is dying. There used to be a huge car meet out at the Mihama Jusco on the 4th Sunday of every month but, Jusco put a stop to that. If you want to visit the major rotary tuning shops, jump on a plane to mainland and check it out. You can get fairly cheap 1 way tickets through skymark.com. The earlier out you buy them, the better. About 18 months ago, you couldn't spit without hitting an FD. Now, they are all being parted out or wasting away.. At least the fast ones. There are a few nice ones out there still. However, most people are turning towards Subaru wrx's, B4's, Evo IV's and that's about it. Of course at the drift days you will see tons of s13's and 14's.. JZX100's are getting more popular now as the price is coming down.

There are 2 car forums that are run by Americans on or previously on Okinawa.

Both have their pluses.. I guess. If you want to get involved with driving events, the American run events (grip) are pretty much only organized by the Ryukyu Car Club Association (RCCA). They are on Facebook.

If you want more info about local happenings, ask. I've been here for... almost 8 years I guess so I can point you in the direction of pretty much anything.

There is a magazine that is put out every month but I don't remember the name of it right now.

Honestly Id like to be around some organized events. Even if it's just a car show, that'd be great.
