Vacation in Tokyo area May/June

Hey guys. A good friend and I will be heading to Tokyo May 26 - June 3 for a vacation, car shopping holiday. I've been wanting to grab a RHD FD but I want the experience of buying the car myself in Japan and not just going through an auction house and having it shipped to me, so I'll be heading to the Tokyo area in late May to hunt for some cars and to visit some shops (R.E., Panspeed, etc..) Likely just hang out near Tokyo most of the time, quick trip out to Gunma Prefecture to visit Mt. Haruna and other Initial D site locations as well as a day trip down to Fuji. I lived in Okiniawa for 8 years long ago, but haven't been to Japan since the early 90's. Unfortunately we won't be able to make it to the Mazda museum in Hiroshima, maybe next time. Curious if anyone lives near the Tokyo region and may be free to meet up, show us around, etc... Going to rent a car for a day or two, but mostly just be on mass transit. Likely stay in the Shinjuku area, but I have not booked the room yet.

Well, my friend and I are departing for Tokyo May 26th.

So far I have reservations at Fun2Drive Hakone Tour on May 31st in an FD3S and I have a car rental reservation from Omoshiro on June 1st-June 3rd for an R34GTR to take in some of the sights beyond Tokyo. I would love to get advice on what to see, do, experience while we are in town from a car perspective. While I still intend to visit the typical Tokyo sites, this is two car guys going to Japan for a car-cation more than anything. So checking out some meets, events, gatherings, etc...during our visit would be great beyond just visiting some of the local shops.

Hotel wise, we have garage parking on site and are staying near downtown Tokyo at a nicer place since I decided I didn't want to bother with the bustling nightlife of Shinjuku or Kabukicho, but we will visit that area just to take it all in. May hit up the Robot restaurant while we are there. Anyways, figured I'd ask some fellow rotary enthusiasts for advice or if anyone is there and willing to meet up with us and show some tourists around, I'd be more than happy to treat you all to dinner or drinks. Take care guys, looking forward to the trip in the next month or so.

Cosmo parts

Kind of an odd request from a stranger. But I could really use some exterior A-pillars for a 90-95 Cosmo. Will defiantly pay you for them. By no means go out of your way but if you come across them I'd appreciate it.

Other wise good luck and enjoy your trip. I hope you find exactly what your looking for. One day I hope to do the same.

Thanks and take care.

Renting from Omoshiro was very expensive if you plan to go outside Tokyo. Get ready to pay tolls and quite a few of them. Also, a buddy rented a R34 GTR and they specifically told him he could not go into the mountains with it as the car is apparently tracked via GPS. All in all it was not worth all the hassle for him but your results could be better.

I will reach out to them then because the only reason I am renting the damn car is to go to the mountains with it. I'm not worried about the tolls, is what it is....it's only 2 days of driving out there, so if I eat up a few hundred dollars in tolls I'm not too worried. The "no mountains" aspect though is silly. Thanks for the heads up. We are leaving next Friday if anyone is local and around between then and June 4th when we depart.
