Looking for FC in Japan - Need Help!
Hey, Guys. I'm new to the forum, so bear with me.
I'm stationed In Misawa, Japan. I'm currently deployed and when I get back, I want to buy a FC. I've looked around Northern Japan before, but the prices for Rotaries in the Tohoku region are wicked high. Does anyone know where I could find a good 89-91 FC for 50,000~70,000 yen? I'd prefer if the car had as little modifications as possible, since I want to use it as a foundation for learning. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Arigato Gozaimasu! |
Welcome to the forum and welcome to Japan. good luck on finding one that runs for 70,000 yen

Thank you for the welcome.
I know, it's gonna be a little difficult. I searched on yahoo auctions and it seems like there's alot near Tokyo and Osaka in my price range, but that's an 8 hour drive and I don't know what kind of condition the cars are in. I figured my best bet was to keep asking around and see if one of the locals would help me out. |
When I buy a car in mainland have it shipped down to okinawa I use Zero
http://www.zero-group.co.jp/en/services/index.html they do door to door drop off and the price is not bad. Most of the time when you buy a car at dealer, you wont be able to drive it back. The title and plates have to converted to Y plate before. I did see this on yahoo http://page7.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g102602683 |
Awesome, I'll check it out. Thank you for the help.

A nice red one for sale on Okinawa right now.
This for sale is a bit of a rarity; a 1991 FC3S turbocharged RX-7, and one of the cleanest examples of the car that you will find on island. Bought from Justin back at the start of 2010 and taken care of since then. As well as a brand new coat of paint to replace the fading Mazda paint after 20 years, it includes the following mods: Handling Front and rear strut bars JIC coilovers (front) Tein coilovers (rear) Dixcel front & rear brake rotors Endless front brake pads, new stock rear pads Overhauled brake calipers Dunlop Star Spec 16" tyres with less than 5,000km Engine Removed emissions system and "rat's nest" of vacuum lines Throttle body/intake manifold internal mods done Apexi Power Intake JoeP manual boost controller Ron Davis racing-spec radiator New thermostat Decat and aftermarket exhaust, downpipe has bung for an O2 sensor (also comes with cat for JCI purposes) Transmission Overhauled clutch master & slave cylinders ACT Street/Sport clutch kit Exedy lightened flywheel Interior FC Infini driver's seat (very rare special edition seat) HKS boost gauge Car comes with rear seat but I have a 6-point rollcage and rear storage bins to go with them Apexi 5-knob SAFC fuel controller The car has had a recent compression test on both rotors and all 3 sides of each rotor were reporting excellent figures. It runs just as good as it looks, and is just looking for a new home. Already Y-plated so would just need to pay and do the paperwork and it'd be yours. |
I saw a red one up on schwab last week. super clean but I didnt have time stop by and take look.

Cheap FC's do exist but you will most likely need to speak japanese in order to get one in your price range. That or get one from another base guy that is leaving or has one available.
You said you were going to be using it as a foundation for learning. What is it you would like to learn? (ie: driving, drifting, rotaries, etc etc...) Your best bet to finding one in your price range is to find one around your area that looks like it has been sitting for a long time. Then take someone who speaks Japanese with you and try to coerce the owner to sell it to you for X amount. If it has no engine or is broken you can get a used engine on yahoo for about 50,000 yen or less. Good luck and happy hunting! If you decide to up your budget I may be able to help out. |

I'd like to learn drifting/racing in general and to expand my knowledge of rotaries. I know the basics of rotaries and I've helped rebuild 3 engines before. I'd just like to get familiar with them to where I know what to do on my own. I know drifting is going to be alot of trial and error, so i'm definitely going to do things the right way.
As far as getting a local, the wifey talks to a couple of locals regularly and they've already said they're willing to help. I'm gonna be back in Japan next week, so the hunting starts soon. I'd like to look around Akita and Hirosaki before I start looking in other regions. I just need time. :) I appreciate all the help, guys. Hopefully, soon I'll join the Japan Rotary club. Haha. |
hey man, welcome to Misawa... i don't know who owns it, but there is a red FC sitting at Rocky's Roost... i assume that dude is deployed too...
anyway, i do know of several FCs sitting around Hach, but never stopped to inquire about them. if you happen to find one, i have a running S5 engine with 40K on it. also some other FC parts, like a full turbo back 4 inch exhaust, a cage, and some other spare engine parts. you should hook up with me when you get back... |

I think the FC belongs to someone in the AMU, but I have seen it around.

This sounds like the man you need to speak with :icon_tup: Also sounds like the best way to start a project on the cheap (cheap s5 shell + used s5 engine) that will definately allow you to learn all the good and bad spots on your car before you even drive or reg. it.
I agree with you 100% I just gotta find a shell. The search always goes on :D |
hey man, i don't know why i didn't think about it before, but Date-san over at Misawa Mazda has an FC he has been sitting on for a long time. not sure if it runs, but like i said before, if you find something that don't, i have what you need.
also, if you google Goonet, that is a site that advertises cars for sale all over Japan... |
I managed to find a FC down in Nagoya and the owners are willing to drive it up here. All I'm waiting for is the first deposit to go through and they'll drive it up when they get it. Time is the only issue now. :)
That Goonet website is very useful. I'm gonna check Misawa Mazda later. I'm pretty sure I remember where it is. |
that is good you found FC.

Go talk to Rob at Big D its out the POL gate all the way up just like you are driving to the toll road. Once you pass JAM Friend Pachinko the road "Y's". Take the one on the left. Go up about 1/4-1/2 a mile and its on the left. Bear with me. Its been a while since I was stationed in Japan. His old shop was called EAW (Eagle Auto Works). Anyhow he can get you what ever you are looking for. He personally got some of my buddies who used to be stationed there a R34 GTR, R33 GTR, my FD and has helped countless other people. Rob has had all kinds of rotaries.
Here are some pics of the cars he got people and some of his (orange FC and the EAW car). If you haven't already meet Allan Arcega (works at the hospital at least he did when I was there in 2007)he knows where Robs shop is at, I believe he does his website stuff too. Good luck with your hunt for an FC. |
