Not the whole vin there; 300001 is just that's it's a 1994, and yours is number 267.

it's an R2, RII. a japanese version 3, FD. my R2 bathurst is FD3S 300255, (i think)
posted below are the front pages from the version 3 parts book that should tell you more esp. if you still have the white sticker in the drivers door well with all the option numbers use "next" and "back" to move between the 3 pics http://groups.msn.com/2wheelsgood/rx...to&PhotoID=814 a 1994 version 3 FD isn't a whole lot different from a normal usa 1992 you'll have no rear wiper, only 2 seats, a slightly updated abs unit under the bonnet, the rear subframe bracing around the diff, black bezel instruments that max out at 180kph and maybe an ignition cut at around 175kph. there is more info about on the web somewhere eric e |

thanks joerg, that helps my spreadsheet of jdn FD chassis numbers out
makes sense that it is a R2 Bathurst with the chassis number being so close to mine it would have left the factory with a decal on the door pillar like attached pic also with the double jointed rear view mirror mount that allows a little more adjustability for tall drivers the R2 bathurst was the 1st Bathurst limited edition released to celebrate the 3 bathurst touring car victories in australia when mazda australia, 3 years running, beat the best the factory porche team could muster. (the last victory was esp. important as porche sent out the fully striped and race prepared 911 type race car with no radio, aircon etc and it was still beaten by the mazda rx7 sp still with heavy aircon etc fitted) after this bathurst became a popular name 1st on other limited edition models, the luxury x model getting the next treatment with 777 bathurst x cars coming out in white with white wheels and red leather finally with the 1995? RB models bathurst became the standard model's name right up to the end of production in 2002? my records say only 350 R2 bathurst were made which makes it 1 of the rarest FD models. it's common to celebrate victories in the japanese market by cutting prices for the consumer. whenever the baseball teams here win the pennant their major sponsors have huge sales to reward the team fans the R2 bathurst was no exception, mazda sold them had a huge discount and they came out at just below the important 3million yen barrier they did this by starting with the R2 and then just not installing some of easy to repalce parts like the front and rear spoilers, fog lights, front stut bar etc. and painting them in the cheapest color, black all those extras out gave it the best power to weight ratio until mazda, along with the other japanese car companies, dropped their gentlemans agreement of 255hp limited cars later model version5? RB bathursts were even cheaper as mazda continued to drop unimportant extras while refining their production process, (hate those flat black front strut bars) http://groups.msn.com/2wheelsgood/rx...to&PhotoID=817 to put that price in perspective the 1st RZ model in 1992 was 4 million yen and was basically the same car with the extras bolted on and carbon recaro seats. $5,000 a seat made them some of the most expensive car seats sold in japan, (later RZ models came with the more important and expensive 17inch brakes and bbs wheels) most R2 bathursts will by this time have had many of the extras bolted back on, mine now has both spoilers, fog lamps and front strut eric e |
reading between the lines - the bathurst was a cut-price special (optioned down), to kick-start some sales. Not really something to get excited about... no offence to bathurst owners :p

It should say "Bathurst" real big on the B-pillar, which if you look at the car from the side, front end to your left, is the second pillar back between the car and the roof.
|
do you have a pic of it? i dont see it on my car at all bud. but the vin, which i double checked, is the correct vin. but no bathurst on the b pillar? i dont know what you mean by the b pillar.
|
makes sense to me now. everyone asked me why i didnt have the front lip and also why i had an aftermarket front strut bar. car is awesome. i love it to death. wow. pretty cool i got a rare car and ddint even know.

gotparts, pm me with an email address and i'll send the bathurst pics to you direct, they should have shown up on at the bottom of that email as small thumbnails, check back and if they are there click on them for full size
the main thing is you have a rare car, FD, with low miles the japanese made 20-30? different models for the japanese market alone, there were 10 models listed for 1995 http://groups.msn.com/2wheelsgood/rx...to&PhotoID=814 as daioni said the R2 bathurst isn't an especially sort after model, like a spirit r or perhaps the RZ and RS models, but then the FD is such a special car that, to me at least, a good car of any model is better than a bad car of any other model eric e oh, and those carbon recaro seats in the 92 RZ weren't WORTH $4000 each it's just that that model cost $10,000, 25%, more than an R2 bathurst but there wasn't much difference except the seats, some cheap plastic, an alloy plate? and less damping on the shocks |
Hi, sorry for my late answer. Yes i used the Japanese and the German parts catalog. In this versions you can see under the button "AIC" all manufactory Datas including the build date.
Gotparts? and Eric e´s FD´s are build on the same date and both FD´s was painted in Black(PZ) and the VIN´s was very near. So i think that the two FD´s are the same R-2 Bathurst models. These Limited edition comes with LSD Differential and was only build 350 piece. It goes on sale in 09/1994. Joerg |
