Underhood fuel cell. Huge Pics!
I decided that i wanted to build an underhood fuel cell for my RX-3. I contacted my good buddy Nick (13brenova) and he said he was up to the task. We unloaded the car and got a rough game plan on how we wanted it to look. I was wanting at least 4 gallon capacity but i didn't know if we could pull it off. We started with the base and mounted it to the car then we built from there. It turned out flawlessly and far exceeded my wildest expectations! I have never work with a fabricator that was as skilled and as patient as Nick. I wish i had half the patients and all the skill he does! Well, here they are!

just curious.. why under the hood?
When you run a mechanical pump they have a hard time drawing the fuel from a rear mounted cell under hard acceleration.
I still think he wants to add some weight to the front so he doesn't bend the wheelie-bars and flip the car on a seven second pass!
Hahaah we shall see!!!
oooh nice.. i get it now.. super nice welds by the way.. :)
Very nice welds and tank. I'm only concerned about location in the case of a front end collision...
A front cell is pretty much the standard on all full on drag cars for the exact same reason.
nice tank!!
Nice tank. I'm in the process of finishing up my in tank surge tank mounted in the stock location.
What are you guys using for gasket material for the fill? Something supplied by a fuel cell company? Is there going to be a stud plate on the inside of it to bolt the fill flange down? |
I used a two part aircraft fuel tank sealer. It's the only thing i have found that will take the methanol. As for attaching it i used 5/16" button head allen bolts and lock nuts. It's a bitch to tighten but it only has to be done once!
