SR20DET / RX7 FC AC Discussion
 

So I have this crazy idea in my head (yes I have an SR20DET FC, not rotary...sorry, I do love them though) of getting AC working in my car so that my girlfriend (and mother) do not yell at me for not having AC in my vehicle. The motor came from an S13 (180SX in Japan, Europe 240SX, America had the KA...lol , early 90s model). This is my first RX7 FC, though I always wanted a Turbo II, this was one I came across that I could not say no to.

Car's current situation:
- Has absolutely no HVAC stuff in engine bay
- Heater lines are looped (previous owner, I'm not quite sure what this means though)
- Blows direct air from outside (this means blower motor works)
- Supposedly heater core is still there (have not taken dash or got under the dash to look yet)
- S13 SR20DET Motor
- S13 SR20DET ECU

Parts I think I need:
- SR20DET AC Compressor
- Mazda RX7 HVAC stuff (or S13 HVAC stuff?)
- Mazda RX7 AC Fittings -> Make adaptor fitting to work with SR20AC stuff.
- S13 interior climate controls to control AC stuff to control AC stuff.

NOW, with this being said, I think this should work like so, correct? I don't see why not? Right? I thought about swapping the entire dash in (S13 dash that is) as I have done research and have seen that the FC can take an FD dash, S13 dash, and S14 dash directly, but I'm afraid of non-flush fitment issues or airflow issues with the ducting.



I may be overthinking this, but I do not want to overlook details. Thoughts?

Use the compressor that is compatible with the engine you've got

Get custom hoses made to connect the compressor to all your other stock 2nd gen HVAC components. Should make life easier to have only two interfaces that require custom stuff.

The 2nd gen electronics should have no issues controlling the clutch on the Nissan compressor, it should simply be 12V to the clutch through the stock relay

For better cooling, swap out the stock 2nd gen condenser for a parallel flow unit.

Be sure to use a new drier and expansion valve whatever you decide.
