Are the feed stlye side skirts essentially flat - top and bottom?

If so, wouldn't a flat plank of Aluminum work just as well for a simple fab?

The aluminum should not weigh much more than CF. Does anyone have a reason NOT to go aluminum?

I believe it is because if it breaks, you have aluminum flying around
