Alright folks,

first new thread from me in a good while, so I'm getting back into practice. I've finally got around to where I can work on my car again and do all the things I was putting off... Didn't know those lists got bigger if the car just sits. The first thing I'm doing is straightening out the frame underneath the car. Over the years, its been jacked up on these multiple times to the point where they are mangled and pushing humps up in the floor pan. I am going to attempt to straighten these back out as best as I can and overlay some v8roadsters miata frame rails, which should fit just fine. Photos attached show the degree of frame squish. The drivers side is probably the most squished. There are smashed locations on both sides where it looks like lift arms were put to pick it up. I'm hoping once I get these straightened out that the miata rails will give a good place to jack on and prevent further damage. The pinch welds on either side aren't in great shape, so I usually jack up under the subframes or control arms. My idea to straighten these out is to make a long sliver that I can shimmy up into the frame rail with holes tapped in it. I then plan on using some aluminum channel underneath to give a reference point to draw to, and then draw the rail down with bolts threading into the sliver. It looks like there is enough room to slip a 1/4" x 1 1/2" x 4' piece of bar stock into the rail from the rear of the car. Those rails are open to the rear. This will be my sliver that I use to draw it down. I'm probably just going to have to work it in a few hole spacings at a time and work down that material from the back to the front as I go.

Have any of you had any experience trying this, or using these reinforcement rails on your cars? I'm a bit hesitant to drill holes in the floor pan to fasten the reinforcement rails. I'm concerned about rust and water ingress, as well as having little lumps in the floor. Hopefully the rails straighten up in a fairly straightforward manner. Let me know your thoughts, I welcome your input. Also, I have a few other projects lined up that I should be posting here soon that you guys might be interested in.

Hi all!

in my intro post, I described the new FC I'll be picking up Saturday (shout out to Sean and Jeff, the enthusiasts who rebuilt thus engine and have been testing it out!) I'll be driving it back 7 hours to Texas. Weather is supposed to be warm that evening, so I'm already on alert to keep the car from overheating.

I have the ability to bring tools/fluids up with me as I'm catching a ride with a friend. Does anyone have any advice on driving it back? I know to be mindful of overheating and flooding. I plan to premix and bring extra coolant/oil and check levels when I fill up. Trying to not run below a 1/4 tank of gas either, so I'll stop fairly frequently I think.

Looking forward to getting this baby into my driveway!

thanks for reading!

Hello all, I have a '88 N/A and I'm experiencing a crank no start.

I've done the following deletes:
Air pump, charcoal canister, cruise control, OMP, BAC, vacuum rats nest.
I have used the Bonzai Racing block off kits for the all of the associated deletes as well. EGR, BAC, ACV, Sub zero, OMP.

I've plugged the vacuum lines on top of the upper intake manifold that were going to something that I deleted.
My issue right now is there is a crank no start where the car seems to not want to start at all almost like there is no compression and I promised it ran amazingly before lol. I suspect that maybe the vacuum system is a possible cause considering I removed the rats nest of lines. My question would be if anyone has done this series of deletes before and can give some pointers as to what's actually necessary and what I should be blocking off, I read forum posts and watched some YouTube videos but I must've missed something. I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Hello all!

I have had a more unique issue that started after I fixed my intake system’s issue. I replaced all the old gaskets, got new vacuum hoses, and fixed my actuator ports. In the process I also got a new mass airflow sensor unit because that broke. After awhile of driving it was doing fine, I think my cables need to be set with a little less tension since it’s idling a little higher than normal, but other than that it’s done fine. Until about 2-3 months ago, it started doing this thing after about 45-hour of driving, where it wouldnt accelerate past a certain rpm. And it was around the 5k threshold when it started. The car began to violently lurch and it sounded like my car was 2-stepping. The threshold it started doing it at began to drop lower and lower as i was getting home, so much so that it was around 3k where it would start doing that. I took it out a few days after and same thing, drove perfectly fine for an hour, then it began to do it again. I recently just replaced my spark plugs, and it was much needed. Car ran so much nicer, but after an hour again, it started to do the lurching. What could be my root causes, and what fixes should I target first? For any experts or people who have experienced this same thing. If i have to take off that intake system I will probably go insane but i will do whatever is necessary. Send help please!

Hey guys,

First let me clarify that Ive searched through many old threads regarding idle issues dating back to the early 2000's, mid 20 teens, and everything about idle issues lead to no resolute solution or it showed adjustments for an S5 Turbo FC or it had to do with high idle situations (over 1000 rpm)

My car is an 87 FC NA

My issue is a bouncing idle at 600rpm to 900rpm.It is a consistent bounce between that range. ALSO if i blip the throttle, it drops to below 500 momentarily and comes back up to bouncing.

This is a new rebuild with maybe 5 miles on it. I dont have an air pump. I do have a dual belt pulley dor the alternator. I dont have an ACV. and I dont have the sub zero stuff. I do have the BAC still that i verified is working (clicks when 12v is applied).

The car starts up everytime. It accelerates smoothly. But at idle bounces up and down.

I would love some pointers to dig into. I assume TPS adjustment? I have Banzais two lamp tester Ill give a try tomorrow.

Hey everyone, we figured out the issue o. why we couldn't set the idle sp now we ve got the timing and tps set, but when I crank the car, it stars fine but idles around 500. As it warms up , it idles up to 750/800rpm. I'd like to make it jump to 1500rpm or whatever it supposed day to crank until it reaches operating temp. I've looked at the FSM but I've just not seeing the information I need so I figured I ask here. What causes or 'tells" the car to hold at a higher rpm until it warms up? BAC? My motor is out of an 88 jdm car, there's no thermovalve or AWS which im assuming is normal for them. The neutral safety and clutch switches ate de-pinned,I wasn't sure if those being removed would cause it to skip the warm up sequence. I didnt know if it was linkage/ mechanical.

As always, thanks for any input.

I’m having a problem after removing and reinstalling my intake manifold to test‑fit injectors.
Since starting the car again, the engine now idles at around 2000 rpm, and the idle oscillates about ±100 rpm. The engine can hold idle, but as soon as I touch the throttle even slightly, it almost dies.
I’m almost certain I reconnected most things correctly, including the BAC valve and most of the vacuum hoses.
The only area I’m unsure about is the four small vacuum nozzles on the throttle body facing the firewall — I’m not confident the hoses are routed correctly there.
I also adjusted the TPS slightly, but I don’t think that’s the main issue because the symptoms feel more like a large vacuum leak.
I tried spraying around the manifold and hoses with brake cleaner, but I couldn’t find any obvious leak.
However, since the problem started immediately after removing the intake manifold, I’m suspecting:
Incorrect vacuum hose routing on the throttle body, or
A vacuum leak at the intake manifold gasket, since I reused the old gasket and had trouble getting the manifold off.
Any advice on the correct hose routing for the throttle body ports or other places to check for a big vacuum leak would help a lot.

I had it in my hand awhile ago, no idea where I put it!
Spent the day going through my parts, no luck.

I have the number 13-087 spring, and the part number 8871-13-087A.

It is discontinued at all the easy to find sites. If anyone has a spare I will buy it.
Thanks

I have a 1989 Savanna RX-7. I noticed these connectors in the bundle of connectors right behind the headlight. These two don't look anything like any of the others, so I was wondering if they were replaced with non-factory ones. If so, why? How do I find out which connectors they replaced?

If it helps, I can't find my FTP or turn signal connectors, so that's my main suspicion. But why?
I’m going standalone for sure, and id like to get a new harness, as I don’t have a TII one and the ones near me are 40 years old. Need advice on a good ecu + harness. I would like to run an Elite 1500 since it seems like it has the best support in terms of sensors and things of that nature. I don’t have a harness currently, and I’m honestly not too fond on running a 40 yr old harness for a big street port tII. However I can’t seem to find anywhere that sells harnesses for tII motors that plug and play with the elite 1500 or any ecus to be frank. And if I find one it’s in Germany and they won’t ship to me. I know there are tons of people who know way more than I do on here, please help lol
