My car's air condition has been working intermittenly. At first I thought I was low on refrigerent. My theory was that the compressor was unable to build enough pressure to constantly to have cold a/c. Luckily I have UV dye in my lines. I checked for leaks using a black light and nothing.

Next I hook up the manifold gauge set. The low side pressure is high and the high side pressure is low... Like really low, they are almost matched. So that would point to two things (based off my research), 1) a bad compressor, 2) a bad expansion valve.

Set up: My car is a LHD 95, it had R134, MANA from the factory. I have an HKS v-mount and was one of the first (if not the first) to adapt the JP3 Rx-8 condensor, compressor kit to an HKS V-mount. While I was in there I used their kit to replace the expansion valve. It comes with the cork tape, valve, and seals. All of this was done about three years ago.

I really have a hard time believing any component failed given that they are all three years old or less (I replaced the expansion valve after the other parts were installed), but I am leaning towards the expansion valve, given that the compressor is not making any kind of weird noises, the clutch is engaging properly, and the AC works some of the time. Back me up, am I on to something or am I out to lunch?

My cooling system works fine, but it strikes me as overly complicated. I don't know why they built it the way they did, and I wonder if I could simply it.

The one problem I do have is that the coolant level in the billet AST / thermostat housing seems to randomly flucutate by an inch or two, which trips the coolant level warning.

Any ideas of what might be causing this? Is the sensor simply placed an inch or so too high? I don't seem to be burning or leaking coolant, and the level in the overflow is usually at "full."
Maybe I just need to bleed it? In which case, how should I bleed this system?

If I was to refresh the system, do I really need to use a 1.3 bar cap?

Could (or should) I get rid of the swirl pot?

On an unrelated note, my car is finally street legal in Japan! (It only took me a decade to get around to it.)
I did some searches on threads from years ago, people described detonation sounding like marbles in a can, which is kind of what this video sounds like.

Asking because my car is currently making a very similar noise above 5k rpm. There's no power loss, and it revs nice and responsive all the way up past 7k, it's just that the noise starts after 5k and I'm worried.
In normal lower rpm driving, that noise doesn't appear. My idle and starts are also fine.

I have a completely stock '93 with the exception having a jdm downpipe and a fc thermoswitch. Spark plugs are basically new (changed last fall).

Hey all! I’m back after a long hiatus with a question because I can’t seem to find another thread on this issue.

I have had my FD for 4 years now and in the last 2 months or so, during my drives the car randomly drops idle from 1200 to 800 to finally 600 RPMs. This happens occasionally, not all the time and usually during longer idle periods (damn red lights that take forever to change)

Before this, since I have owned the car, the car would also idle around 1000-1200 RPMs no matter how long we were sitting in neutral.

Wondering if anyone has any leads on why this would randomly start happening and also doesn’t happen all the time.

Any and all advice is welcome! Thank you so much!

Does anyone know what (if any) section there is in the shop manual that deals with the headlight assemblies?

I could only find S(Body)-38 dealing with the headlight cleaner system.

Thanks!

The issue correlates with each other. Wideband also goes RICH when this happens further confirming what i believe is an ignition break up. It does it free reving or under any load. Doesn't matter if its light acceleration of WOT.

Running Power FC master (by FC tweak)
New ignition coil (L1 and L2 pack)
new spark plugs
new wiring harness
new extra grounding kit
gauge cluster already rebuilt

take a look at these videos to see clips. in 2nd video i get some good clips on the end.
Don't care about wait times at this point. I was actually going to buy from Rx-lights but then found a pretty spicy thread about them that I just bumped. Can anyone recommend either one with first hand experience? Rx-lights seems to run a little cheaper with the conversion rate. I like they're made in Canada. Couldn't find my info on Sakebombgarag moonbeams.

So long story short, life happened and I wasn't able to drive my RX-7 for about two years. It's been sitting in my garage the entire time, but I didn't do any sort of storage maintenance on it. It needs a new battery and I need to get the old fuel out, also planning on an oil change that was coming due. What else should I do/did I do by letting it sit this long?
