I've already touched it a few years ago :fawk: :D
Nice pictures Kim. Is that the "official" museum? And can it be visited the whole year? And most important: is it good?
The race itself can never be the same anymore now, with oilburners winning. They should be outruled :D
Well, we all knew they'd win, didn't we? It's time for some competition, I reckon. Pecarolo did a good job, but they sure don't have the budget Audi has. The fact the corvette's etc came in so good says a lot too. In the prototype class there's hardly any serious competition anymore. It's a shame all the big names choose to throw out money at F1. Just imagine how Le Mans would be with a large field of more or less equal cars...

ArmyOfOne 06-21-06 09:45 AM

Awesome pictures. Now I gotta find the racing channel and try to catch the clips.

BTW you need to wrap that finger in plastic!!

Kim 06-21-06 02:30 PM

Im pretty sure that the Museum is open all year.
As you can see, there is all sorts of cars there, not just racecars. Oddly enough there were alot of French cars, which we all know sucks hard. :D
I must admit that the diesels sounded cool, a deep but silent roar. If you watch the "Racestart" video, its pretty obvious which are diesels :)

We are allready planning a trip next year.
I doubt it but there are RUMORS, good rumors

A good PR project for sure given the state of petro-politics, but certainly the fundamentals need to be addressed first?)

nice pictures indeed, it seems there is more to see near the track then on the track...

Is that the official LM winner? Or just an older dummy?

Kim 06-24-06 01:34 PM

Im not quite sure whether its the official winner or not, judgeing from the clean shell im guessing "Not".

And Yes there is ALOT to be seen around the track, I remember seeing numerous cars that i didnt know excisted and then ofcourse there's the french female ass' Ohh la la :D

rotary emotions 06-25-06 08:11 AM

I'm not sure if it's a dummy, but I do know the real car has been in use after the race for several events, and even a test run by Paul Frere ten years after the win. So it will probable have been cleaned somewhere during that time.

Here are some GREAT photo's and 2 short video clips from Fuji 2004 of the 787B... Love the pit in clip!! sounds amazing....

so, it seems the real one still gets it's exhaust cleaned out from time to time.....

The Le Mans museum 787b display model is not the original one .
It's a 787 refinished , Chassis N° 001 , the Le Mans 1991 Tcar (18T) . It was the number 201 1990 Le Mans car .

thanks for the info. Actually, if it's a 787 (and not a 787B) you should be able to see it. The 787 comes closer to a 767, with a different wheelbase and a different rear deck. Of course, they can have done some mods to the body, but the wheelbase won't be changed, I'd guess.

fr7 06-28-06 04:17 PM

Don't ask me what they have done !
But 787 and 787b are very close :
1991 n°55 787b :

1991 n°56 787 :

The original n°55 registration plate :

The Le Mans museum car plate :

According to this site ( http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~ip3t-nksn/C-Search-top.htm ,
look at the results ) there are 4 n°55 display models : one 757 based , two
767 and one 787(the Le Mans museum one ) .

Aha. That's cool info. As you can see on the pic's you posted, the 787/787B differ in rear deck and vents. I guess it's easy enough to "fix" that. But rebuilding a 757 into a 787B seems quite a task.

I touch the real thing every day, I have the front off of the 1991 one that crashed during practise.

Pretty damn nice Gary! Where the hell did you find it for sale?

//Oliver

g11ary 07-21-06 04:44 AM

Hi Oliver
It was pointed out to me on ebay.
I journalist and his father were at LeMans and got it when it crashed fromm the pits, as they I assume had full access, but they are very much in to Italian cars so eventually when the novely worn off it went in there shed until 10 years later they had a clear out.

OC94Rx7 07-22-06 09:45 AM

Interesting story. You just never know what will turn up on Ebay...thanks Gary

Hum , not in 1991 . Your 767 car raced Le Mans in 1989 only . No 767 or 767b
in 1991 .
You can see your car results here : http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~ip3t-nks...rc/RES-767.htm

fr7 07-26-06 02:51 AM
