First V8 FD in europe?

Hey guys its been a while since my last post, i just return from a long leave in the states getting the car ready for shipment. heres is what the new toy has right now. 5.7L ls6 from a 03 zo6, CNC ported Ls6 heads, Torqer 2 cams, and long tube headers. should be good for about 410ish wheel hp and a lot of torque. My rebuild on the RHD FD is almost complete the stock twins is being converted to nonseq setup. new ignition, fuel, vmount IC and koyo radiator. I need to learn how to tune the pfc so i can compare the two once the v8 FD gets here in dec. i have 4 long months until good weather.

hIGGI 10-24-06 02:21 PM

No V8 RX-7's here in CZ as far as i know, i would love to see yours once its done :D

AF1 10-24-06 05:48 PM

Higgi, you will be suprise how easy the rebuilds on these 3rd gen chevy blocks are. for one i didnt have to wait 3 months for my shop to buy a new 1inch impact gun. this is for the flywheel nut of course. you wouldnt even have to remove the motor if you happen to need to rebuild or replace the internals. by removing the oil pan everything is there. and no need for valve adjustments thanks to the hydraulic lifters. when my car was weigh at the port it total out to 2736 lbs on a touring model. this is with 1/4 tank of gas, spare tire. i dont have p/s or ac but thats about 25lbs max? my RHD is going to remain rotary. im just waiting for the nonseq turbos to arrive. once it gets here ill get it clean up and take some good pics. my friend does photo stuff for a hobbie and he just recently bought an e30 m3 Red.. should look good with my fd red also. ok well right now im just praying the ship doesnt drop my car into the ocean.

rotary fd ftw! :)

AF1, there is already one or more V8 FDs in UK. With LS1 engine though.

AF1, drop me a message if you ever plan to sell that V8 FD in Europe ;)

killswitch 11-04-06 02:35 PM

Yep, there's a couple of V8 FDs in the UK :)

Speedworks 11-04-06 03:04 PM

Reason why it's ot done in europe is because it's illegal.

In some countries you can switch engines from oen car to the other but they need to be from thesame make. Like in belgium it's totally forbidden to do anything.

I would consider it as well once my car turns an oldtimer (20 years)

AF1 11-28-06 08:36 AM

The car is finally here. Got it registered, inspected, and insured. For the guys around ramstein just look around for a red fd with temp tags.

School

I saw that thing at UMUC on Monday night... What a freaking beast.

Looks great! Awesome job man...

BTW I am totally trying to source out parts as we speak...

Anybody got an fd roller???? :icon_tup:

gnx7 11-28-06 12:00 PM

Can you post some pics of this car? Who did you buy it from?

Let us know how it feels on the Autobahn!?!?!

I nearly topped out 5th gear which was well over 175mph and it was still pulling.

I heard that getting together an LSx FD in Europe would be quite a feat. Not a lot of spare parts in the junkjard. And expensive to get it all from the states. Best thing would probably be to buy such car in USA and get it overhere, then get it registered somehow :P

AF_H1VLTG3 11-29-06 05:44 AM

You dont see many because I know in Germany they tax their citizens per engine displacment.

Irgendenner 11-29-06 11:25 AM

i think its not reliable in germany to build a v8 rx7...

for my FC i pay 100euro taxes for one year

for a v8 or so without the newest Euro-Norm for emissions like E4 or E5 you pay over 800 oder 1000 euro taxes for one year...

for a mx6 with 2,5 6cylinder engine you have to pay taxes from 500€ and higher
but newer cars with better emissions are cheaper
if you have more ccm you have to pay more...
only for rotary engines you have to pay for the weight of the car like the trucks.

and so i can have a rotary engine with more power than e 2 liter or bigger piston engine but i have not to pay so many taxes :-)

i hope you can understand my special english ;-)

hIGGI 11-29-06 02:14 PM

there is no issue with tax if you cant register it

Stack 11-30-06 12:15 PM

Being military is great...

No tax for us...

AF1 11-30-06 03:31 PM

Stack is 100% right. For insurance.. well u guys can guess. Stack u should just wait until u return to the states. Rollers are everywhere, engines arent too difficult to come by. all you really need is the short block and just buy the bolt ons to save money. The kit is really simple to put together if u ever worked on cars or have ever pulled out any engines. Torque central have lots of good info. infact most of my info i got was from that site. the only thing that sucks about having this engine here in europe is finding a tuner. i didnt have time to get it tuned on a dyno. my only option now is to wait until the spring for test and tune night at bitburg.

ArmyOfOne 12-04-06 03:08 AM

There is a place close to you called Redline Motors. Their number is 06321-16186. They build Racecars and I am sure they can direct you to a source in the area.

I am happy for you getting it through inspection. This just goes to show just how shady these people over here are. You can have a V-8 RX-7 but I can't have a Rotary Opel Kadett-C. Now what kind of BS is that!? Anyways congrats on your new baby and I'll be seeing... I'll be showing you my tail lights at Bitburg. Hahaha...

Irgendenner 12-04-06 06:18 AM

hey redline motors are 1-2km from my house away.
they are in neustadt in the rear of a closed toyota dealer.

@army of one

why you can`t have a rotary C-Kadett ??

maybe we can see us in bitburg this year, but first i need a bigger turbo standalone and more...

You can only do this in some countries, UK wouldn't be a problem, Germany seems possible, but very expensive. Belgium is quite straightforward: everything is illegal that brings HP :D
Some cars can legally be upgraded to a larger engine overhere, but only if that engine came in that car from the factory, and with papers from the importer. For example, in an old Kadett GT/E (the old ones from the seventies) you can swap the 1300 for a 1600 if Opel Belgium allows it (normally they do).
Speedworks: oldtimer means 25 years overhere, and by the time your FD is 25 they probable have changed that to 30 years (they have been talking about that).
Do keep in mind this would still be illegal! The fact that you don't need to go to the test does not mean you must not keep to the rules. In case of a V8 into an FD, it'll be rather obvious should someone decide to check.

AF1 12-04-06 04:09 PM

Thanks Armyofone, ill try those guys. I got done adding my new coilovers to the car and new rims/tires for the winter. the spring rate are 12kg/mm both front and rear(apexi exv). The ride feel seems almost like stock until u hit a big bump. The corning feel is soo smooth. the next thing i need to do is find a body shop that can do some fender rolling. Well ill keep u guys updated. i hope ur still around this spring, i want to see that rotary kadett and show u my tail lights :)

ArmyOfOne 12-05-06 04:25 AM

Well I guess its on then!! As for a shop to roll the fenders I am sure we can do it over at our shop. Just call Daniel over at Vehicle Visions up here in Wiesbaden. Tell Him Jesus gave you the number. We do airbrush, custom paint and fiberglass body modifications. 01735125854.

K.ronic 12-05-06 11:51 AM

So how are both of you going to feel about lookin' at S5 vert tail lights, lol? It will be rough at first I'm sure, but we can still be friends, lol! :molepoke:

Army of One-
How much would you guys charge for a fender roll? I just put new struts and springs on the vert and I should probably go ahead and get it done.

AF1 12-05-06 04:58 PM

wow thanks bro. is this the same shop that can tune ls1 motors?

ArmyOfOne 12-06-06 02:05 AM

No thats a different place. I gave the number call my boss for prices. I just do Airbrushing as I mentioned.

Irgendenner 12-06-06 05:47 AM

i mean a wheel&tire shop in my near make fender roll für 30 euro or so.
maybe i can ask at friday
