Testing omp without a car
Might be a stupid question, but I got my hands on an omp from an s6 rx7, I want to see if it works, but I don't have a car to test it in. Is there a way I could use a 12v power supply to check for life? And if so, which pins should I power and with what kind of amperage?

You’ll need something that can run the stepper motor and monitor the position. ie, and ECU.

The pin-out for the OMP is in the Mazda factory shop manual & wiring diagrams (FSM), there's links to electronic copies of the FSM on the net that you can download. Here's one: https://www.wright-here.net/cars/rx7/manuals.html
The FSM also has procedures for testing the continuity of the stepper motor windings & position feedback sensor so you can at least test the OMP for basic health before trying to do a full operational test test with an ECU driving it. |
