s5 alt on standalone
1 Attachment(s)
I have my car running on an adaptronic e420d and all seems well minus my charging system. My first new s5 alternator was overcharging so i put another fresh reman alt in and now its not charging. The alt is currently wired with terminal S going straight to terminal B (I read in other threads that was ok, now im questioning it.) Terminal L isnt currently connected but it will power the volt gauge in the dash.
So i guess my question is with S to B and L not currently connected, should my alt be working right now? Anything wrong with this wiring? s4 chassis and battery in the rear. Attachment 558172 |
L needs to be connected to a load for the alternator to charge. If it's not connected to anything, no charging.
I always use a light bulb. The OE system connects through the charge light in the dash. Never tried a voltage gauge but my WAG is that it won't work as a load to drive regulator. |

There needs to be a load, which the voltmeter won't provide. Unless, maybe with a really old school voltmeter. Probably would be best to just wire it to the charge light like in the factory wiring, and tap your voltmeter to the alternator output. |
Cool thank you guys, I guess I misunderstood the info I did find. I'll give it a try!

B: Battery output
S: Ignition Switch: L: Load (Dash Light) R: Regulator For the same amount of work, why not go with a FD or Taurus Alt instead? One switched 12v wire, one Constant 12v wire and then the Output cable |
