NEED HELP!! Programming ignition for ECU!!!
 
Alright, I know this is long, but I need help from you guys! I've been building and working on my brother's first gen for a few years now, and I've been messing with this computer since August or so and i'm really trying to get it running good for Rotary Revolution. It's a '79 Mariah widebody with a 13B Turbo, 3mm seals, etc. Basically, it's all aftermarket stuff including the EMS 4424 Stinger ECU --- http://www.enginemanagement.com.au/p...roducts_id=107 --if you want to look at it, etc.
Basically, what I'm really looking for is an ignition map, or basically, numbers for it. The "chart" that I have in the software (which is downloadable at this site) goes as follows: 25 boxes going across -- 0 to 12,000 rpms---500 rpm's each box. ex.) 0, 500, 1000, 1500, etc. Then it has 11 total boxes going down---each row going across is for one steady pressure. The numbers going down the side of the chart are in kilopascals and go as follows: -80kpa, -70kpa, (down to) 0 kpa, then +75 kpa--(roughly 15 psi), and lastly +150 kpa--(roughly 30psi). For a total of 275 boxes. What I really need to know is what kind of numbers I need to work with. (As for fuel, though, I'll be able to deal with that afterwards.) The numbers go for the entire row for that specified pressure and what I have so far goes as follows: 25 degrees advanced except for first four blocks which are 0 degrees, 20 degrees and first four at 0, 18 degrees and first four at 0, 16 degrees and first four at 0, then 15 degrees, 14 degrees, 13 degrees, 12 degrees, 11 degrees (which is at 0 kpa), 10 degrees at +75kpa, and 5 degrees at +150kpa. If I haven't lost you by this point, then I really hope you can help me out!! BTW, with these current settings, as long as it stays in that 0 degree range at high vacuum and under 2000 rpm's, it runs great!! Once that timing starts advancing, it runs like crap!! Please, help me out!! (BTW, I'm getting it to a dyno real soon, but I'm really concerned about the ignition!)

You're running a very rare EMS in the US - you should try and find tech support from people who are running it or the manufacturer.  This is why you're not getting too much replies.

This, folks, is why I stress having available tech support is paramount when buying an EMS!

Are those total advance numbers?  Do a seach for "ignition" and "advance", and you will find several useful threads around the forum.  The rule of thumb seem to be to not go under 10-15 degrees - there are threads that go into this, and I'm not going to rehash why.  Running 5-degrees total advance is too low, and it's not surprising it runs like crap.  Try bumping the total advance up to 10-degrees and see if this helps.  Try advancing it 2-degree increments after that - I HOPE YOU HAVE AN EGT GAUGE TO MONITOR ALL OF THIS.
