Making (programming) your own ECU?
 

I've had some experience with programming the 68HC11 Microcontroller (what the Haltech uses), and I'm wondering if it's possible to buy a 68HC11 board and get the "software" or something similar that Haltech uses to make the ECU.. OR if its even possible to write your own software for the ECU?

Anyone know how I might go about doing this? I think I could seriously do it, it just involves finding out exactly what I need to program into the ECU, if its as simple as calculating injector pulses, ignition timing, and O2 sensor temperatures, then I'm all over it.

Doubtful if you can get Haltech s/w- you'd need source code also. Writing your own- you can, but it'll take 10 times as long as you think. You'll learn a lot though. One good resource if you attempt this might be www.diy-efi.org.

I'm also looking into this as I have access to an EPROM emulator and a chip burner.

Do you know what series PROM is in the Mazda ECU and what format the code is written in ?

I also wondered if it's possible to use a flash memory chip in place of the OEM PROM so that you can change and download programmes w bit like the APEXI ECUn - is that what the Haltech chip is ?
