How do you choose?
 

Looking at the sub-forums there are 2 top fields that generate the most threads. I guess either going with the microtech or the haltec would be what I have to choose between. Which one would be easyer to work with?

I am going to be running a 13bt s5 engine with a 3rd gen upper manifold and throttle body. I am not sure what support is out here in Mass for these engine management systems.

If I had to do adjustments to the ems given above which would someone be able to do from the garage in their home.. given a lab top of course or how ever it is they load the maps.

Both are good. No EMS is easy to work with. Choose whichever brand is supported by a good local tuner who you can pay to tune your engine, or whichever brand is supported by your favorite touring rotary tuner. You can't tune it yourself, and if you don't believe me then download the manual from the manufacturer's website to see how confusing it is. ;)

Yes, the EMS can be programmed via a laptop computer in the car, a desktop computer in the garage, and some EMS brands offer a hand controller. However, tuning is not as simple as loading a map, so you would need to have a professional tune your car (usual cost is about $500).

The Microtech models are not fully universal units. They need to be configured for a certain engine type, and reconfiguration can only be done by the factory in Australia which charges over $300 for the work. It would be better to stick with a Microtech that is already configured to run a rotary engine. The Haltech models are universal and will work with most common engines when properly reconfigured by the tuner.

do you mean engine types as in rotary vs. reciprocating or as in 13B-E vs. 13B-T vs. 13B-REW etc.?
