High oil temps
 

This might seem like a weird/dumb questuon for the ECU section as it's oil temps. Here's the thing. Around town driving my oil temps will be at like 190-200f water at 180
i hit the highway and cruise, which for me is 4k+ rpm and my oil temps climb considerably, waters stays about the same.

I have a permacool 10 pass cooler so cooling hardware is good. I could duct the cooler itself but I wondered if any tuning scenarios could be dumping more heat into the oil system?

Oh, .I've been meaning to test the gauge sensor to see if it's accurate. I'll do that this weekend. Would be funny if that's all it was.

That's TINY! OEM application is FAR bigger than that and if you're pushing anything over OEM power, I'd suspect you're running into a LOT of oil coking issues.

I'd suggest looking into the new Derale products if space is a constraint. Derale 65860 Oil Cooler

That cooling design is incredibly inefficient. It's probably in the 6000-8000 BTU range. The one I linked you was 125000 BTU and fits in a similar footprint.

I'm not saying your wrong but why do you say that? Is there any info I can check out? I've no problem with throwing down the cash for a better cooler. I just need info to justify it.

No, the fan has nothing to do with it's BTU/hr efficiency. They've just finally decided to do internal turbulators like intercooler cores on things like oil coolers. It's extremely expensive to extrude this way, but adds so much surface area and mass, it's absolutely worth it. 10x the cooling efficiency on the same footprint. ;) Pretty nuts, right?

Thanks man. Yah turbulators in oilcoolers usded to be squiggly wires in the tubes!
i was looking at setrab because I don't really want to muck withanother fan. For the price though the derale and scewing with another fan is probably worth it.

Dumb question about thermostats. When the oil is cold the oil should flow from the front cover to the tstat and back into the engine. It should close off the option to go to the oilcoolers.

Mine is like wide open. When cold the oil can flow anywhere it wants. I don't have a way to see if it closes and functions properly when hot. I wish I would have paid more attention to this stuff when I was younger. Lots of shit I did to this car back then was less than optimal.

Derale and ImprovedRacing both make pretty good thermostatic oil thermostat suckers... Use one of those.

I ordered a big setrab and thermostat from improved racing. Got here fast and is all mounted up. I have an hpde on the 1st/2nd so we'll see how it goes.

Good. They're great guys over there. This one that I put as a reference was WAY overkill for most setups. I might need two or three. ;)

Got everything installed and ready to go? I'd like to see some pictures of the install when you are able and hear how the change affected your temps.

Installed and hit the track with it. I mounted it right in front of the radiator, it covers the majority of it so not much room for air to bypass. I don't get past 210 unless sitting for a long time. The radtiatot fan actually draws enough to drop the oil temps while sitting. Also my water temps dopped. It was 80f at the track and water temps were 178 oil temps in the 190s

I spent a pretty penny to do it all but the peace of mind is worth it
