Probably injector opening times in milliseconds, if it is a fuel map.
If it is an ignition map it would be the no of degs.

thanks, anyone else got any rule of thumb for me?
like x fuel should have x air or anything?

There are usually two basic types of maps: fuel and ignition. The x and y coordinates are injector pulsewidth vs. rpm on the fuel map, and timing vs. rpm on the ignition map. In the better EMS systems, engine load is also included as a third dimension, z. Sometimes there are several x-y maps which the EMS "steps" through as the load changes, or on other EMS systems there is an additional z vector which makes up a 3-dimensional map. Any other settings are usually referred to as "trim", which basically means refinements which are not absolutely necessary to make the engine run, although they may be required for certain operating conditions.

If you are using Windows 95 or 98, you can play with the old Wolf3D 3.0 memory cartridge software.

You can't tune an engine on paper, but basically you will get best economy at cruise somewhere around 14.7:1 AFR, while best power will be around 12:1 AFR for unleaded pump gas. BTW, the AFR is based on weight, not volume.

Rule of thumb - keep reading. :)
