I can't quite tell what you used but make sure you're using a three point crimper on Deutsch solid pieces. Also time to get you a real heat gun :P

Nice work on demistifying these Emtrons. I've been reading a lot about them, especially their torque request control strategies ( a-la OEMs for the last 15-years and Motec with the MXXX series.)
For what you pay for these you really have a whole hell of a lot of control. Not to mention the z-axis table integration. I look forward to what you find!
Edit: Here's a great blog to read to help get your head around Emtron's advanced functions

Yea, that's Nick's Blog. He's the US Representative/Distributor for Emtron. If you end up wanting to talk more about this, hit me up over @ @RGHTBrainDesign on Instagram or my Facebook business page to reach me immediately.

Cheers,

im keen to see how you got on with the KV8. I just purchased one for my s6 rx7 and will be getting ready for the install and tune shortly.

They kicked Ryan off the forums because he didn't pay them vendor fees. Seems bogus but whatever...

Check on Facebook, he's pretty active on the "Brapboys rotary tech page" there.

Ohh k. Thanks. I will go and have a look there. Anyone else running these ECUs ?

No worries :)

As far as I'm aware not many are. Most owners seem to prefer cheaper ECUs that are far more common in the hobby scene. Higher end stuff is far superior, but also far more expensive and thus avoided.

Anyone else running a KV8?

I'm using one on a big block V8 and so far I'm pretty impressed. I would say it's more in the line with the M150 in my NSX than the Adaptronic on my FD. Im debating whether to switch to the KV8 instead of the M150 for my FD.

I use both Motecs M1 series boxes as well as Emtron gear on different builds for clients. Your choice should be dependent on who's going to do the install and support as they'll net similar results and are both rock solid pieces of gear.

I designed and elaborate sensor harness that taps into the factory connectors of the OEM harness in the NSX and did the majority of the tuning myself.

I don't have an OMP and the initial setup of crank triggers and injector staging takes the longest. From there, the actual tuning of the ECU isn't very specialized from M1 to KV8 so jumping back and forth isn't that big of a problem, especially if I make a cheat sheet with the hot buttons.

I'll preface this by saying that I am an Emtron dealer, and would be a Motec dealer as well if I weren't working closely with another that is relatively local so I really don't have a bias towards either unit.

That said, I don't quite understand what you're asking if you've done all the integration work and will be tuning the thing yourself? The software and their approach to the process is actually quite different from a configuration standpoint. I'd liken the Emtron software closer to the old Motec 'Gold Box' software with its UI whereas the M1 software and its 'workbook' approach is an attempt to convert people to Motecs current workflow.

Again, both are great and have their own strengths and weaknesses so if you have questions with specifics ask.

Billj747 11-17-22 04:42 PM

It was a general ask if anyone in the community was using a KV8.

The UI "feels"/looks a little more modern like M1 and even my Adaptronic rather than the old Gen Motec which feels more antiquated graphically, like Haltechs software.

As someone who used to be around a lot of Motec, like a lot. I was going to buy one, but even with the discounts that I had with Motec at the time I went with Emtron. Mainly because the features needed require a GPR license. I went with an SL 4, yes, it isn't a KV8, but the feature set is the same as far as software. I also wanted a dash, real bad. Motec, with the feature unlocks, and the dash designer is powerful, tops even, were cost prohibitive. God i want one (you can use one with an Emtron) I went with an ECU Masters dash. Having an ECU Masters dash, and an SL4, I have the I/Os expanded from the dash via CAN, making an ultimate package on a bang for buck deal when using a 2 rotor. There is no need for anything more for those with a dash logger that has IO and maths with a 2 rotor.
The fuel model, its fucking awesome, out of the box things are pretty good. Put a pressure transducer before and after the throttle body and its feels like GOD mode no matter how fucked up your overlap is (running an ETB as well).
I have a Motec PDM 15 with keypad, Motec LTC, Ecumaster 7" Dash, and an SL4. Seems to be harmony, no... IS HARMONY. Im about to set up cruise control with the drive by wire using the stock buttons.
Motec software itself is ultimate, for sure, even against things like Bosch, but Emtron, a close second to Motec. But the features per dollar? Emtron, every fucking day. I just landed on this thread and saw some hate, skimmed over it, dont care for the weeds of it, its a good ECU. Really.
Anyway, the one thing that brings me here is I wasn't sure how to set up a negative ignition split. LOL. Thats my only issue really. Everything else is :cheffs kiss: So anyone know how to do negative split?

Negative Split is not available on this firmware, but I'll request it from Nicholas as a "quick revision" if you really feel it's necessary.

This is one of the only uninhibited platforms I can think of and it really gets your mind turning when you realized how "stackable" everything is. Very mature ECU design.

Glad you're enjoying Throttle Mass Flow perks!
