Electromotive Tec II questions

Hey guys, I searched and read through a lot of threads, but I didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

A friend's friend of mine pulled a Tec II out of an Escort (heh) and he has the CPU. He heard through the grapevine I was thinking of going Haltech. In his mind, Haltec sucks (he thinks everything he doesn't like sucks). He said he'd sell me the ECU alone for 500 bucks.

How much do these things run nowadays?

It doesn't seem like the feature set, from what I've read, is up there with the Haltech and Tec III. I don't want to end up junking this in a few years to get a Tec 4 or next-gen haltech.

Also, he doesn't have any of the sensors or wiring harness, so I'd have to buy that too. I know RETED sells the whole Haltech setup for 1200; I'm wondering how close it'd be.

Advice wanted.

If it's the 4-cylinder version, it's probably the dual coil one.&nbsp I've heard you really need to run the 4-coil TEC-II on a rotary, unless someone proves otherwise?

I'll ask on that. I'm leaning more towards saving up for your Haltech package, Ted.

You need a TEC-II with dual plug, 4 cyl configuration. These are relatively rare in that they were each more or less custom built. They were also pretty pricey compared to a TEC-3.

The TEC-3 comes in one basic configuration which adapts to mostly anything. Further, list of features is very long, and the "on the fly" programming is much improved. Price of a TEC-3 is much lower than for a TEC-II configured for a rotary.

I am happy with my TEC-II--bought while the TEC-3 was still in development. However, having had a hand editing the TEC-3 manual (available on their web site at no charge, I think), I can tell you that everything about that unit makes it easier to tune, easier to understand, and easier to install than the TEC-II.

I just happened across this thread, and do not usually hang out on Forums, so if you need any other information from me, feel free to email me personally at:
