So last saturday me and my friends went to pick upp my new drift project.
Attachment 650787 we drank lots of energydrink to keep awake. http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...pscad9ce94.jpg this is what we came home with Attachment 650788 Attachment 650789 Attachment 650790 http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps558b9e6d.jpg Attachment 650791 Attachment 650792 Attachment 650793 http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps395eaa56.jpg Attachment 650794 it was built a year ago by some norwegian drifters, and raced. It looked quite messy, and the build quality is not all that good, but its a bare shell that I can work with, and it fits my budget. They have alreaddy welded a rollcage, fitted tein coilovers, and sparco bucket seats with harnes. modified the steering knukles, welded the diff, and mounted an hydraulic E-brake. on the exterior they had put on a complete blister bodykit, and alot of stickers! |

So the project begins.
Attachment 650771 Attachment 650772 Attachment 650773 Attachment 650774 This might be the thing that makes this build unique. Attachment 650775 The 2011 3.7L mustang v6 with the mt82 manual trans was bought a year ago. Ive been drooling over this engine for some time, and I knew I wanted to use it in my future project. I had no idea what chassie I was going to use, but Ive always liked the 3gen rx7 and when this car came up for sale without engine and trans it was just what I needed to get started. First Ill convert the car from rhd to lhd and run the engine NA to see how it works with the chassie, and to see what I need to do with suspension ect.. later on when the money is there Ill take out the engine and build it upp from top to bottom and turbo or supercharge it. but thats out there in the future somewhere. will try to post regularly, with pictures :) |

So, its been a while, and not the way I wanted to start this build, work work and lots of other stuff. But today I got to do some things.
Since im gonna do it lhd I took away all the pedals, steering, and break/clutch stuff. Attachment 650385 Attachment 650386 Attachment 650387 Ive given this some though, and I will use the original break sylinder/booster and clutch sylinder(cheap/budget). So im just gonna cut out where it all connects on the firewal and weld it in on the left side. Attachment 650388 Im gonna need a new steering rack, and I ordered one yesterday, but today I got an email saying they didnt have it after all, so they canceled the order. its actually not that easy to find.. or I might be looking in the wring places.. Attachment 650389 I also took away these beauties haha Attachment 650390 the guys who had it before me were running a 1jz, so they used these 2" spacers to get more clearance for the tall engine. I figuerd id just remove them, since they most likely mess upp the steering and suspension geometry. Ive measured again if the engine will fit, and now it will go through the bonnet, so ill have to make some custom stuff there too, and might have to make the geartunnel higher too. Attachment 650391 I had a closer look at how they had modifyed the steering knucles, and we figured something had to be done. My brother, father, and I have been talking about steering geometry, and how we want it to be. We want to re-weld the steering arms, so that we get slight negative ackerman, and shorten it even more. if we do that we will adjust it to run slight camber and slight toe out. that should work ok, athleast in theroy, of course well have to try it to see if it works. we will also have to relocate the steering rack further back, and lower it so the steering arms on the steering rack get better angle, and dont cause wobble and vibrations. Attachment 650392 so thats all for now PS: if you got any pointers on where to buy one lhd steering rack id appriciate it! |

Attachment 650153
Attachment 650154 Attachment 650155 Got in a coupple of hours today, and used it all on this loose nut wich connects to one of the bolts for the crossmember. welds had let go, so we had to cut open a section and weld it back in place. |
Progress is slow.. will post again when I have some real progress to post :)

Really excited to see this build. What are you using for engine management?
