Suggestion's on building an FC.
 
Alright. Whats up guys, Name is Matt and im 16. I own a miata that im going to be turning into a drift car but im thinking of going the FC route if someone wants to trade. So my question is what are some suggestions on building an N/A one as I have no experience with Turbo's and they are quite pricey also. But if I was traded a Turbo II I think that would be good since I can add a bigger turbo and boost the hp up.

As the typical builds with any drift car this would be a week-end car not really a competitive one. So here is what I would be doing:

Rollbar
Welded Diff
Coil overs
Bucket Seat
Exhaust
Seat time.

This is the thing, I would want around 200-210hp since I think that would be good for a learner car and also a week-end car to fool around in. Any suggestions on what to buy? Any does anyone drift a N/A car that could give me some tips? Thanks everyone - Matt

just keep driving a ton until youre awesome and upgrade the parts as you go. don't be a nerd and build this mega machine and not know how to drive it at all. it's way cooler seeing someone at an event rip with a less built car than it is to see some dude suck it up with some overbuilt shit.

Alright thanks man! I wouldnt have the money to build a really high horsepower car anyway so thats out of the picture. Takes more skill to drift a low hp car too.

ur not going to get 200 hp with a na. not cheaply anyway. if you get a car thats capable of even surviving a track day kuddos. aint nothing cheap about fixing up an rx7. just doing basic maintainance is a pain in the ass.

Really? Well ill just have to buy a Turbo II engine. I know oil is a major thing on these cars as seals and stuff go quick if not takin care of. Im going to be looking at one sunday. The N/A should be fine learning on I think. You agree?

start with the NA and run a racing beat exhaust mani, and full exhaust with no cat. get some stiff ass suspension and lower it, a 6 puck clutch and welded diff.

then get a turbo engine because you will get used to the power and youre addicted

I started with an NA body. Then I bought a full JDM swap. Now I have Street ported big turbo set up.

Best part about NA bodies is that they are cheap and easy to find. If you're drifting there is likely to be damage and very possible to total a car....very. So better to keep going through cheap NA bodies than ruin a perfectly good, getting harder to find, expensive TII body.

I'm sure in New York you will be able to find an importer for the motor, tranny, drive shaft, LSD rear end, and axles.

Im going to look at an Na one sunday. I would love to trade my miata since Ill br able to buy some stuff for the car now. Yeah there is a couple importers and the TII engine costs 1300$ with everything so thats good. Anyone one on here willing to trade?

The motor w/acc., tranny, ecu and harness are about $1,300-$1,400ish but you'll still need TII/JDM drive shaft and rear end (diff and axles)

Take your time and learn with the NA and while you are learning build up your suspension on your car instead of the motor, because the performance parts for a NA 13B probably wont transfer over to your TII/JDM motor.

If you've built up your suspension to your liking and your NA motor is still in good condition buy the TII motor and build it up, rebuilt/ported/parts/etc.

Keep an eye out on the For Sale section when you are ready there are people selling rebuilt TII/RE/REW motors a few times a month.

Im going to be posting a video on here of me Drifting on a simuator called Live For Speed. I made the gearing in the car as a stock N/A FC and lowered the suspension, put up stiffness, adjusted the camber to my liking as its not going to be a Competitive car and it has a base power of 140Hp while the FC has a base power of 146. Clutch Type LSD, and pressure in tires are change. im on a 900 Degree wheel. Yes I know this is not real life but it gives me an aspect of how the gearing is. in this game it has a 1.8L rather than a 1.3L and the RPM limiter is at 7k rather than 9.5k. Its not the best but gives you a feeling.

Not at all lol. In video's the steering looks more than 900 degrees. Plus power and all the other techniques.
