Well, busted a timing chain in the bike, so until the S30 is done this will be staying as it is and I'll be dailying it. My spindles should be back from the welder this week, so I can have new bearings pressed in, have them powdercoated, and put them back on and finish up the suspension.
After that, I'll be saving for a 20b and putting it in the FC. Just kidding, I'm going 1j. |

Not FC related, but my s30 is about to go back together as soon as these spindles are powdercoated.

Like three grounds and four wires that had to be powered? Four or five, I can't remember exactly. I just built my own relay box and used 30a AutoZone relays |

That sounds really simple! I would love to do this swap, but i dont know if i could tackle the wiring part of it. Do you know what wires you had to do? Just the ones for the dash and everything? And also did you retain the stock rpm gauge, speedo and everything else?

One plug on the KA engine harness has all the wires you need to power for the engine to run. As far as the dash harness in the FC, I didn't touch it and made a custom cluster with aftermarket gauges.

You ever consider putting an SR in there? Just seems so easy, basically like swapping an s13 at this point right?
And I can get a 1j already rear sump, use a USDM r154 tranny, build custom mounts again and make more power than an SR. And they sound better |

Yeah. Actually that was the original plan, but at this point I never want to make another rear sump oil pan again. And I can get a 1j already rear sump, use a USDM r154 tranny, build custom mounts again and make more power than an SR. And they sound better |

Could you post a picture of the wiring a little bit also if you wouldn't mind? |

Did you buy the CAN/AM wiring box or did you just find out which wires to use and only use the relays?

Gonna make one more drift event on this motor setup, then it's coming out for either a 1j or an LSX. Probably a 1j, unless a good t56 falls into my possession for a good deal.
Got some overnight parts from Japan in the mail today: Attachment 657895 Pair of Work VSMX, discontinued a long timeago for the VSXX. 18x10 -4, figure these will do as new rears. I thought I was going to need overs, but with a 235/40 and a gnarly ass pull, we fit them under stock quarters. Attachment 657896 Also tried one of Gary's RPF1's, 18x10.5 +15 fits perfectly under stock metal Attachment 657897 Even with Gary's massive pull, they still rub a little bit. With a 225/40 they'd fit perfect, but I'll probably try and beat the inner fender in some tomorrow, that way when I decide I need more tire I can just get 30mm overs and still tuck 245's Attachment 657898 |

Tax money just came in. I've been slowly accumulating parts, last thing I need is the motor which I'll be picking up as soon as I can get ahold of an importer in Dallas.
Picked up a T2 drivetrain a couple weeks ago for the 1jz, the NA diff and axles blow up around 200hp apparently. Plus all the aftermarket LSD options are made for the T2 diff casing, so it gives me more options down the road. Attachment 650606 Also these are in the mail from Thailand. I've never actually seen a review from anyone running this mount kit, it's from some obscure company that barely speaks English. Xcessive has been promising FC/JZ mounts for the last three years and I don't feel like waiting on them. If I don't like these, I'll end up making my own. Attachment 650607 Also picking up knuckles this weekend at Mineral Wells. Bought them from a guy in Texas a while back, haven't gotten around to picking them up yet. Since I already have extended balljoints and extended tie rod ends, this setup should put me around 66* of angle, only thing limiting me will be my wheel size and offset. Speaking of wheels, I finally found a match on Yahoo Auctions Japan for this wheel: Attachment 650608 I've had this KF for like a year and a half looking for a match for it, and it's currently on a boat from Japan headed this way. |

All the 1j parts are here, now it's just time to go get a motor.
Attachment 649798 Attachment 649799 Attachment 649800 Attachment 649801 Attachment 649802 Attachment 649803 Attachment 649804 Knocked out the knuckles today, still need rack spacers and an alignment but everything looks promising. Tial bov and flange are in, mounts are here, Parts Shop Max subframe and diff risers are here too, so when I go pick up the new T2 diff and axles I'll pull the subframe and put all that in. Drilled/slotted rotors and new pads are going to be here tomorrow as well. |

Rotors and pads came in today, so I put them on and went ahead and painted the calipers. Still need to get a new pair of rear calipers and fab up a dual caliper setup.

keep us updated on those mounts..

Will do.
I got pneumonia a couple weeks ago so I've been unable to work on it for a while, but I'm about to do the water pump and timing belt, and then throw the transmission on and drop it in. JDM Engine Corp screwed me out of a starter and ignitor, so I'll still need those before I start it up. I'm also in the process of moving to a new house, so it's in transit right now. After I get the motor dropped in and running, and build the radiator and intercooler mounts, I'll be pulling the engine back out to repaint the engine bay. |
i might have an ignitor for you.

Ashamed of how long it's been since I've worked on this thing. Just got moved into a house with a garage so I can actually finish the swap now.
Attachment 646236 Going to go ahead and change the timing belt while I'm doing the water pump, pulleys, and ac compressor delete. Have the flywheel bolts now for the transmission swap, so shit should start progressing soon. Also, my 18"s for the front should be coming in any day. I really want to ship off my KF to have it relipped but I won't be doing that until I finish the swap and new aero. |

Started working on the 1j last night with Andy, wrapped up the new water pump, timing belt and tensioner, pulleys, serpentine belt to delete the AC compressor, and reassembly.
Of course, since 1j's weren't produced over here, I had to use the timing belt off a '88 Isuzu Trooper and the serpentine belt off a '00 Audi A4. Couple progress pics: Attachment 645149 Attachment 645150 Attachment 645151 Attachment 645152 Also picked up this low mileage engine for my cafe bike, it'll be going in soon as well. It's a fun little project. Attachment 645153 |
did you see that Xcessive finally came out with JZ mounts for the FC? YOu need 1 inch spacers between the subframe and frame though.
|
Fucking pissed. The WEEK I drop the motor in, Xcessive finally releases their FC JZ mounts for about a fifth of what I paid for my cheesy Taiwanese mounts. If I end up not liking them I'm scrapping them and buying Xcessive.
|
I feel yea on that waited and and waited talked to Dan and Dave and part shop steering kit and they always told me a couple more
Month finally got tired of waiting and got zaks stuff installed it and 2 days Pam releases their kit. Stinking bitches! |
sucks that they couldnt figure out a way to make it fit without adding spacers though
|
comic your running a midsump right? There kit is set up for a front strut I think if I remember correctly. Thats the reason they couldnt get it lower to sit under the stock hood. Custom mounts would suit you better
|
I'm running the mid/rear sump motorset. From what I've seen, the mid sump and rear sump are the same. Xcessive made their mounts for a rear/mid setup but the motor won't clear the hood, which is why the subframe spacers aren't absolutely necessary, but it'll allow the stock good to close.

Got the motor in.
Attachment 644918 Attachment 644919 Attachment 644920 Attachment 644921 Fitment with the mounts is pretty good, however I need the tailhousing off an SC300 w58. My transmission came out of a MK2 celica supra, so the tailhousing is super short and doesnt reach the shifter hole. After I pick that up, I can go to Dallas and pick up the rear end and have the driveshaft made. |
looking good, cant wait to hear startup and see it driving.

Had some shifter placement issues, with the w58 the shifter was up under the dash. I got the shifter extension off an sc300 which put it farther back, but still about 2 inches too far forward. Came up with a temporary solution by just taking out the shift boot trim and cutting out the tranny tunnel. I could send it off to have DriftMotion extend it, but I have better things to spend money on right now. Here's how it turned out.

Threw the MX's on the front cause I'm too broke for anything else right now, but it actually looks like they'd fit with 50mm fenders.
Attachment 644190 Too bad I don't believe in fiberglass front. Stock metal it'll be and the MX's will be spares |
Ben, why not cut and add a piece to the shifter lever it's self to push it further back? You could do that For free, have better placement, and not worry bout it anymore?
Seems like you could just add material to the bend that's already present, to get it more towards you |
Chris, I might end up doing that. I've cut and welded the shifter in my s30, so it shouldn't be a big deal putting a bigger swan neck on it
