PBM Pro Coilover vs stance SS+
The ol "VS" debate. I have been searching the forum and other corners of the interwebs for a few days now in a quest to purchase coils for my FC. Many local drifters tell me they love stance, have used stance, and just buy stance.
I have noticed through the years the names and style of these 2 brands have changes a bit from the old GR+ ect ect. Budget = 1400 I would like to hear what people think of: - the new style PBM Pro series $1350 - Stance SS+ $1335 ------------------ I posted in the drift section because that's mainly what this car is being built for. Already have DTSS elims and new bushings throughout the chassis, but the last piece of the puzzle to replace is my blown ass stock springs/struts Part of me want's to save up and get Pro comps for $2k, But I just want to hit the track this year. Can always sell these and buy better once I have learned more. Appologies if this has been asked before, but I have been looking high and low on this forum and can only find review on the older stuff: GR GR+, orange spring vs newer copper spring ect. Thanks |
I thought PBM pros were like 1650.
I've driven with PBM pros and comps, and stance gr and gr+. My overall favorites were the PBM pros, although I do like how beefy the stance gr+ are. Either way you can't go wrong. |

Shit I wish I had gotten pros then. The difference between comps is pretty noticeable.
|
I've had both runnin pbms currently also have has tein and ksport stance and pbm are very close , I actually have the pros since I bought them 3years Ago
|
I have heard bad reviews of the PBM coils for S chassis... not sure if they are any good for the FC. interested to know tho.
|
I like my pbms. but i have never used stance. I think youll get the same outcome either way you buy.
|
thanks for the input guys.
I think at this point a 6-pack of beer will ultimately decide which arrives at my door. Cheers |
Pbm ftw!

if you can spring for it get the pro-comps
STANCE Pro Comp Coilover Kit - Mazda RX7 FC3S - Ace Up Motorsports |
ended up getting the PBM pro series. Is it normal for them to not send you tracking info or respond to emails after 3 business days? Ordered on friday at noon, and other then my PO in my inbox, I have no idea when to expect them in the mail.
|
No they always send me confirmation but there's usually a problem with my order every time tho, I just call up and they take care of me.
|
like 2 minutes after I posted I realized they were at FD long beach. then like 2 more minutes later they emailed me explaining they were in long beach and had a tracking number for me. Bird is officially in the air and arrives friday.
|
That happened to me when I got my coils haha. I got pissed until I called them and their voicemail explained about FD. I've never had a problem with their products or customer service, they're pretty awesome.

Although you have made your choice, I figure I will just chime in some personal experience. I have recently installed a set of Stance Gr+ (now "ss?"), and so far I love them. I have had Tein Mono's, and the Gr+ ride alot smoother on the softest setting. Until I hit extremely bumpy roads, it felt like my stock AAS. The only issue I have heard pertains to corrosion. Good thing I have OCD like a *****, I'll just periodically wipe them down. :)

So, about 400ish miles on the pro's now. I Have them at lowest damper setting for cruising on the street, and they feel fantastic other then my stock balloon tires bounce more then the suspension.
quick question. On the pro's you can mount the front 3 ways in the bay. Through research I noticed the comps can do: / - \ or \ - / as far as mounting them to the strut tower. The Pros give you: / - \ or I - I or \ - / So if I can mount them the "straight vertical" way should I? other then the goofy diagonal? Currently installed as / - \ and have not had any problems. Vertical still allows some front camber adjustment with stock knuckle. just not crazy amounts that I do not need at the moment any ways. Back to review. Did not get any binding or squeaking on the front when turning lock to lock like many people have mentioned. Was literally "take old blown stock shit out, and swap in new hotness" With some proper wheels/tires and replacing the rest of my blown suspension components (bushings ect) and rear camber adjusters/camber bar I will be good to go. Have not turned up the dampeners yet, but plan to this weekend while learning to drift. |
I finally installed my Stance GR+ Pro kit last month with a set of very soft 400lbs/275lbs (7.2K/4.9K) springs. For street use I have them set on #2, or one click firmer up from softest on the front and #1 or softest on the rear. On the street I run fairly smooth riding Continental DW in the 2225/45-17 size on very light weight 8.5" wide rims. I can't believe the improved ride quality of the car, with vastly improve dampening quality. No, it is not Lexus/Cadillac like smooth, but for a 20 some year old RX7 it is very nice. Much better than the KBY AGX with Eibach springs combo that was on the car before. Hell, even my wife noticed the difference
