Oil light comes on while drifting
At least im pretty sure its my oil light, not the coolant light. It only happens sometimes, on longer drifts or when doing a donut in the same direction for more than a couple turns. It only flickers on for like 1/4th of a second, maybe once or twice. I check my oil level right after it happens and im solid. I also have a slight oil leak from the cooler lines which im replacing today.
Should i be concerned? I'm thinking its oil sloshing around in the pan, no? |
It's oil sloshing in the pan. Invest in a oil pan baffle plate.
|
or get a pineapple racing oil pan:)
|
You're doing it wrong!
Don't you know Takumi could keep from spilling the water? newb... |
rofl!!! werd u gotta make it go around the pan, thats the ticket. hahahahaha yah get some baffling or the pineapple pan, its expensive but gewd
|
don't wast your money on the crap. rotarys don't get slosh. look at your dip stick,
It burly even gos in the pan, about a half an inch. thats how much oil is in there. if you've ever seen the bottom of a rotary motor you can see theres no were for it to go I say you have a bad sensor on the pan. |
i had the same thing happen to me. then i had a friend ride along and he said it was just the washer fluid light.
so we immediately pulled over and filled it up. close call. anywho, just remember if its a red light it probably the oil light, if its orange than its the washer fluid |
It could be oil pulling away from the sensor but from what I have seen on most oil level sensors the wires are all effed up anyway and probably hitting the frame rail or motor causing the light to flicker. As long as it is full of oil just ignore it.
|
It's probably just that the oil's sloshin' around because of the Gs, and the car thinks that you're out or something.
Before you ignore the light, actually check to see if something is actually wrong. If not, then ignore while drifting and occasionally check/investigate on your spare time |
its the oil moving to one side from the lateral forces. i have the same problem. the baffle should hopefully fix it. but from what i gathered from the mazdatrix site, it only prevents bubble formation from the oil and to help slow down the flow when it falls back down. so the pineapple oil pan would be best. but it is expensive.
|
for me its just the washer fluid light
|
Same thing happened with me today, I was assuming it was just the oil movin around.
|
The Pineapple baffle is not really a baffle. You need a vertical baffle in the pan, like you have in a fuel tank, to stop the oil from sloshing side to side. Problem with that is you can easily starve the oil pump by not allowing all the oil to get to the other side quick enuf.
