newb question about sway bars
 

so now that i have coil overs, i am upgrading brake lines to ss all the way around and im still trying to figure out what rear pads to go with but the real question is what are you drift guys doing with the stock rear swaybar? upgrading it and to what? im trying to get all my suspension out of the way so i can move onto the next hurdle into drifting, thanks

If you want more traction, get rid of the rear sway bar. Especially with coilovers.
Example : insanes UK drifters.

The rear isn't that precise without the bar, but this downside is worth the gained traction.

Just pull one of the bolts out at the track, try it out. If you don't like it, just put it back in.

i am just trying to figure out some of the more specifics as to what people r doing suspension wise for their setup so when i buy parts i can try to do it right the first time, thats all, right now im just a semi broke college student who wants to drift so for now i can only do it occasionally but someday i would like to more frequently

I feel ya on the college student thing. Get coilovers and dtss elminators first then just drive.

I've been driving w/ the rear disconnected for a few months, its seems to be less stable at higher speeds, but then again I'm only running 5kg springs in the rear. When I get my DTSS eliminators and get an alignment I'm gonna bold it back up.

I drove home with mine disconnected from the track on accident. It wasnt too bad but definitely felt different.

no sways feels the same dude. only if you have coilovers tho...

No sways, frnt or rear...feels the same to me driving or sliding...solid.

i will be hitting the highway for the first time on sat, i was thinking about takin the sway bar off and try it around town before i try it out at the track, but thanks for the input, airquin, baller pic, but i do want to try without

would removing the rear swaybar make the car less snappy, ie go from traction to no traction smoother?
and how would removing the front swaybar help, do you only remove it due to clearance issues with other components?

i was just thinking that it would allow the body to roll a bit more and allow the weight to transfer allowing the rear of the car to slide easier, the whole point of a sway bar is to force the car to maintain traction by pushing the opposite tire to the ground when the body is flexing or twisting. but by removing it or disconnecting it, the sway par is not pushing the tires down and makes the rear end no so "tight"

Yeh Im getting the jist of it it was just that at first glance it sempt like there was a bit of a difference of opinions IE. Veils second post, saying it aids traction took me a while to realise the other part, that it makes it feel looser or not so "tight"as rotor_ftw said.
I hear you on the college thing I AM POOR AS HELL, finally saved up sum cash so want to get sum steering mods, lucky the car came with full coils and camber adjusters when i bought it so thatll save me sum precious $$$.

I may just swing up that way some time. and I have coilovers and a good diff my car is very loose any ways so I run my sways.

haha damn i was just asking about say bars in the drift setup thread. anyways, glad that i am educated now. any other notable suspension mods i should do other than a set of good coilovers?

there is alot you can do to drift, there are many threads on here about this, look at the drift setup thread and look what guys are running and u can even pm about there setup to ask them about the pros and cons and good luck
