im finally keep this fc build *drift*(IL)
 

so after 3 fc's(88 base, 86 base, 90 vert) i have finally found the one that im gonna keep(1986 gxl) :icon_tup:. i picked up this fc from a dsm kid for $600 not running. i went to go look at it and saw that the reason it was not running was that the maf sensor was unplugged. the kid told me that it was running until he replaced the primary injectors, then it would turn on and die and that he had been trying to get it running again for 3 months. so long story short i paid him and drove it home :nod:

the good:
*Super solid body
*racing beat springs
*"mazdaspeed" intake (fake)
*motor seem to have a lot of compression
*2+2(back seats)
*1986 :icon_tup:

the bad:
* A lot of dings n a couple of dents
*some rust not bad compared to my past 3 fc's
*the previous owner painted the ebrake, glove box and door handle white with a paint brush:facepalm:
*the interior is nasty.
*sunroof don't work
*headlight don't go down.
*several crack plastic pieces.
*a lot of ghetto wiring
*bad bumper n passenger fender

My plans for this car was to do a full restoration but they drastically change. Im gonna make a completely drift car. I hope to maybe participate in some of the events that clubfr has during the summer.

i bought a bumper and fender. and i also had an extra vert aluminum hood that will replace the super heavy steel hood. i strapped the hood on my dd my faithful corolla, and crammed the fender and bumper int the passenger seat. and took it to my friend house where im keeping it for now.

after staring at my friend drift ready 1jz supra (mk3) i said screw it and started to tear the interior out and removing all the sound deadening tar from the floor. the only things that im keeping are gonna be the door panels and dash.

since im keeping my door panels i decided to get rid of the gray and paint them black with some proper vinyl paint

even more rx7's at ClubFR events, yes yes yes!

so i found a good deal on a body kit on Craigslist. what do you guys think? all i need now are some side skirts, rims, paint job and coilovers

And an LSD... and about 40 more horsepower. And another two-three sets of rims and twice as many tires. And a bucket seat, new steering wheel (with appropriate spacer), 4-point (or more) harness belts... and tie rod spacers, rear steer eliminators, new suspension bushings, an upgraded clutch, upgraded brake pads, new parking brake wires, a spin turn knob, aftermarket gauges so you don't blow your engine.... and a bunch of little other things.

A body kit, rims, and coilovers don't make a drift car. It doesn't even make an autocross car that can win in it's class.

The BARE minimum for a true drift car is a bucket seat, harnesses, and a steering wheel adjusted for your leg and arm length. Everything else is just nice to have.

Uh, yeah... sliding around in a parking lot and high-level drifting are two different things.

If you can drift like a D1 driver in a 86 NA with stock seats and an open diff, more power to you.

first of all man i never said that i wanna go pro, i just wanna have some fun and do a little drifting here and there, not trying to go pro at all so i dont understand what the problem is with trying to make my fc look nice while still doing some low level drift events. And if i ever try to go tryout for proam i would obviously get the proper equipment. But for now an aero kit n coilovers are more than enough for my level of drifitng

That's fine, but that makes it a regular FC with coilovers, not a drift car.

By definition a drift car is a car that has been setup expressly for the purpose of drifting, and putting stipping the interior and installing coilovers doesn't count.

If you just want to have fun practicing and doing some basic drifts, nothing is wrong with a lightly modded car, but drifting well simply because more difficult than it needs to be, and it's more important to stiffen up the softest two parts of the car before you stiffen up the suspension or the body.

It's also very hard to drift with an open diff. Not impossible, just way harder than it's worth. A two-way clutch type LSD is arguably the most important mod besides the seat, wheel, harness, and spin turn knob.

i respect your point of view man. im just not sure what you mean by stiffen up the two softest parts of the car. The gxl comes with a clutch diff already, and im planning to get a seat and harness asap and later on the other necessary equipment. :icon_tup:

so i picked up a nice first gen for the cheap with 71k miles for $200 not running. But got it running thanx to my friend. Probably gonna sell the corolla an daily the classy first gen

Think about it.

The two softest parts of the car are the seat and the driver. Both are extremely squishy but connected directly to the steering, brakes, and throttle. You could have the best tires and the nicest suspension, and it won't matter if you're sliding out of your seat every corner.
