You're right. I have not held a long sweeping drift. I drive an fb with a na 13b.
I have driven many events and heard rotary, sr's, rb, v8, jz both pros and local drivers hold big 3rd/4th gear drifts without having to bounce the limiter. Bouncing off the limiter isn't going make you go any faster. Why not just have some throttle control? |
That being said i realize there is no point in arguing over a forum about someones opinions. Especially when it comes to drifting. Personal style being the basis of it.

Not that I don't believe you, but what specifically have you found to be bad about the RTEK? I just don't know a ton about ECUs to be honest. I'd like to know what problems the RTEK has.
I have a stock ECU laying around that came with my imported motor, I could switch to it, but SAFC seems scary to me! The car seems to run at the AFRs I want and stuff (10~11:1 under boost, 14 when cruising), and I had a local dude that is pretty clever (shook motorsports) make an ignition map that he says is very conservative, so I always figured I was pretty safe but maybe there's something I don't know? To be honest I've never fully trusted my setup so I've always just run wastegate pressure. I'm still at like 7psi peak boost in 2nd and 3rd. But if I do end us staying with the RTEK, is there a way to make a safe rev limiter? The Ignition timing rev limiter is the best way to go and if you are not sold on a Haltech, MSD ignition controllers have rev limiters built in that will fit your application. MSD 6al box @ $250 + Rteck 2.x @250 = One Haltech. |
ignition cut always better than fuel cut. always.
the chicago drift scene is permanently stuck in 2nd gear, so maybe get a taller final drive? |
Holy fuck i just spit up laughing!!

If you can't afford a decent ECU then stop modifying your car right now because you clearly cannot afford it. Why the fuck people cheap out on such an important part of the car is beyond me

I bought a turbo engine setup from a friend who ran an Rtek 2.0 on an s5 turbo for two years and haven't had an issue. I have had the setup for two years and had no problems. 4 years of drifting and the Rtek kept the same engine alive the whole time and still going making ~250whp. The rev limiter is definitely something to stay away from though, otherwise I think its a good upgrade until you can afford a Haltech or something
