how good are gs coilovers?

im going 2 be buying some coilovers here soon and all im going 2 b able 2 aford is godspeeds. now all my 240 buddys say godspeeds are junk. has anybody used godspeed coilovers and can tell me how good they are?

p4nc7 12-20-12 07:57 PM

If your friends are telling you they're junk, chances are they are. I'm sure they work great for budget coilovers, but why not just save up another couple months and grab something higher end? I'm sure the extra 3-400 wouldn't be too hard to scrape together in a couple months.

Do'nt by the godspds they r junk i tuke some apart last weak and the pistens were differant from side 2 side and the shok shaft seals were crusty like pretzels and cudn't seal aginst the shaft

POWER BY MAX hands down best bang for your buck and shipped there a little over 1,000 Godspeed are known for shitty quality from what I here.

Jesus Christ, you and OP need to take some English classes.

my experience with god speed is from their first gen stuff. Ive heard there new stuff isnt so bad. But their first gen stuff was worse than a spring strut cambo.

they were super bouncy and if lowered all they way they were about stock ride height.
you will be disappointed with them to say the least. Granted this is for the first gen stuff.

D2 isnt too bad, step up from godspeed i think. when in doubt, buy a nice used set off the forum if youre really scrapping for cash dude.

That was my point. Thanks for noticing.

But I really did disassemble some Godspeed coilovers, and the pistons really were different from side to side. They were different diameters too. One of them wasn't even tight against the wall of the shock tube.

I've been using (daily, autocross and drifting) the same set of Megans since '07. The pillow balls in the camber plates got a little loose, but no other problems.

I had godspeed streets on an old GC Subaru impreza I had.... And they rode worse than the cut springs on blown stock struts that were on the car when I got it. Honestly I think a solid pipe from the knuckle to shock tower would have been smoother.

I had Megan tracks on an old turbo II I had.... They were stiff, but not the worst. The Nicest riding coils I've used are a toss up between my stance's and BC's .... My 240 buddy's say PBM had some crazy stiff springs, but they're nice pieces.

mxrider914 12-22-12 12:14 PM

You get what you pay for man. In my opinion BC's are the best bang for your buck.

joshuaput 12-22-12 02:15 PM

I am very interested in seeing how the new gen godspeeds are. I will ask them on facebook and refer them to this thread. we will see what happens.

Also please disregard in my previous post where I posted "there" instead of "their" I dont know what happened.

ComicArtist 12-22-12 09:29 PM

BC's are nice. I'm partial to PBM's, though, because of the spring rates. BC's are a little soft for my taste. If you set them up right, they feel like stock suspension.

The old style PBM's were crazy stiff because of the valving in the shocks. The dampening adjustment didn't do much, they were just ridiculously stiff all the time. However the new style is much more comfortable while retaining the same spring rates.

Godspeeds are shit. Megans are ok. The dampers wear out faster than a 'good' coil, but for the money they're not bad. Definitely better than GS and D2.

My personal advice, spend a few extra hundred bucks and buy PBM or BC. Can't really go wrong with those. And you'll be just as well off as if you spent a lot of money and went with brands like Tien or HKS.

sideways-FC 12-23-12 06:27 PM

I think im prity set on pbm's now they look awsom!

sideways-FC 03-04-13 10:28 PM
