FD engines?

i cant help but notice every one likes 2 go with fd engines now a days in there fc's. why is that? what makes an fd engine better then lets say an s5 t2 for drifting?

BALLZAK8 02-02-14 11:39 PM

Ive been wondering the same thing.

1BADSP 02-03-14 12:23 AM

the fd engine is a better ,stronger engine, capable of a lot more horsepower.

sideways-FC 02-03-14 08:37 AM

in what ways though? i mean i know the ports are all ready prity big stock and u could do a really really big street port on them. but in what ways are they built stronger? and is i worth the money 2 get one over an s5 t2 or somthing like that?

savanna.seven 02-03-14 02:20 PM

im not sure on the exact reason why people choose them but,

FD ports are bigger stock (as already stated)
The rotor housings are 30~33% better than FC
Im not sure off the top of my head but the runner lengths are different from s5 to s6 so im sure that has something to do with powerband
FD's have hardened stationary gears.
hmm.. theres quite a few perks but ultimately it comes downto how to build your motor i guess.

Rear irons between s5-s6 both have the bridge on the oil pedestal
S5 Tii and S6 have the same compression ratio.

fwiw Im running S6 rotating assembly, S6 Housings and Large Streetported S4 irons. More than capable of 350 and up. With supporting mods ofcourse lol. To be honest Im not sure if they are actually using an entire FD motor or maybe just the manifolds seeing as the FD motor mounts on the rear iron as opposed to the center like the FC. Seems cheaper and easier to use FC irons. but what do i know? lol

sideways-FC 02-03-14 03:22 PM

yea my current moter is like an s5 t2 hybrid tipe engine with part from allmost every 13b series lol. i was also wondering if people are starting with FD engines or just using the housings. i know banzi raceings makes mounts 2 put the FD engines in FC'S. im planning on builing another 13b this summer and want 2 make 400-500whp reliably and i dont want 2 dump thousends of dollers in 2 the engine to make it reliable. im mean would going with and FD engine be worth it for somthing like that?

savanna.seven 02-03-14 03:43 PM

my opinion would be no. what im doing and sounds like you are towould be ideal. I would say so long as you have supporting mods (safe tune, pinning or studding the motor, etc). you can puta turbo on any car to go fast but if it aint safe poof lol

sideways-FC 02-03-14 04:04 PM

i dont want 2 spend the money on pining and studing though if i dont have to. about what hp do u have 2 worrie about pining and studing?

savanna.seven 02-03-14 05:07 PM

hmm..im not sure if its directly related to just horsepower goals. Ive seen dowel landings crack in the 250hp range but its more towards detonation that causes that..maybe high boost too? Someone else want to chime in? Im only saying what i know first hand or have witnessed so someone correct me if needed.

I personally would stud or pin my motor if my power goals were in the 400 and up. but im doing everything i can to improve my safety margin.

sideways-FC 02-03-14 05:18 PM

how much does pining and studing cost and who does good work? on my last engine i just went with goopy heavy duty tension bolts but i dont think i want 2 go with those again.

driftfcbuckey 02-27-14 02:49 AM

Newer technology. Stronger rear iron over the FC Units.
Very very very expensive to set up correctly

misterstyx69 02-27-14 04:53 AM

Banzai does not make the mounts to go in the Fc.They make Cosmo mounts(13b RE).
Motivefab makes the FD to FC mounts.(tell Adam that Styx sent ya.)
