drifters....17s or 18s and why?
 

as the topic says, do you run 17s or 18s and why did you go that way?

just kinda interested

to kick it off, i run 18 x 8 + 14 fronts and 18 x 10 + 19 rears
225/40/18s all round
having only 170kw i'm thinking 17s will bve easier to turn and cheaper for tyres
buttttt i'm prob wrong and i wanna know why!

If you're worried about not being able to spin the tires just up the tire pressure.

I think the most "Competitive" Setup is 17 in front with a 235 tire and 18 out back with a 245-275 tire kinda depending on power levels.

I personally run all 17 for the cheaper tires. If I had some kind of tire support I would switch to the 18 out back.

+1 on Tire pressure. It means the difference between spinning 17's/18's on an NA and looking like an artard.

17's are usually the better choice like the previous statements.

i run 18's cause i get my tires free but i have a set of 17's as well

It turns them, with 45psi it does it fine, I really meant easier to turn as in clearance at front, I meant to be more specific but decided to forget to put that in cos I'm a fucktard.
Do a lot of people run 17 fr 18 rr?
You can get a good sticky tyre in both sizes so I imagine price and setup would be the only difference
Also what looks better in your opinions? 17s or 18s??

I run 17/18 Stagger. Granted, I usually run 15's at events. Rofl.

I use 17s and 18s on the rear. 225/45/17s and 225/40/18s, usually 40psi. They feel the same to me.

I run 18s cuz they look cooler.

some people run 17/18 stagger because a smaller diameter combo up front helps with the turn in and "rotate" the car into the corner, it also has to do with not rubing suspension or chassis components at full lock when upgraded with steering angle parts.

good turn-in, staggered fitment example: F1 vehicles
bad turn-in, not staggered huge fitment example: Donks, Boxes, or Bubbles on some 28's (ever see one doing a u-turn?)

-1 on 18's looking cooler lol. maybe I'm the only one but most 18's look too big to me on the FC. 17's is as far as I would go and I might just do 15 or 16 watanabe rs knockoffs. 16's = less weight so easier to turn in maybe anyway. I has manual rack :)

17/18 stagger is pretty much the setup but 18s all around work well too. 17s sit the front lower without having the tie rod angle in a binding angle. I prefer 18s upfront without power steering. I didnt really notice anything easier with 17s upfront

18's are more wide compared to 17's. A 225/40/18 is more wide than a 225/40/17.


For me I run a 275+ in the rear. It would be hard to source used 17's in that range.

17s in the front for clearance reasons (low car + lots of angle = less wheel clearance in all directions). 18s require too much hammering.

17s in the rear for cheap tires and lighter wheels. 18s in the rear if you don't care about tire price and have a decent amount of power.

FYI heavy wheels are noticeable even on my LS2 FD which has plenty of torque to spin any size wheel. You could blindfold me and I could still easily tell if I had my RPF1s on or my china stang wheels.

18's give me probs with rubbing and plus I dont feel like paying for the rubber
But they fill out the wheel well so much better and do look cooler but 17s are just more pratical for my application

17/18 stagger. Even though i run 18 9.5 -1 up front anyways. Trying to go low and drift ypur car is easier on 17s. I have issues trying to pound in my frame just for clearance... But then again it makes running 18s that much better.

Bn aero + widebody + at least 18s =moneyyyyyy

maybe with BN ya. but I'm not going BN myself. biggest thing with BN is offset. BN needs spaced out like whoa. I want a car service hiro front bumper and maybe GP or bomex rest. 30mm wide too. with 17's. if I stay kinda stockish, that's when I'd do 16 rota rkr's. I think 16 and widebody would look weird, maybe 240z flares with the 16's. decisions.

^I don't like the "my car is a huge blocky vacuum cleaner look" that BN gives off. just big ass flare out on bottom. just me

I run 17x9 and I spin them good with my NA motor plus 17 tires are cheap and easy to find
