Hi, i need to know what i need to make 87 fc drift ready. Like what I would need to change. Everything in it right now is stock and it needs a new exhaust to pass smogg and emissions tests. I am not looking to change the 13b engine OH yeah the 13b is n/a and I don't want turbo

There is a writeup not too long if you search this forum. Mainly get the rear steering eliminators. Get some practice time. Everything else is up to you. Get more torque, and stiffen the suspension

Listen I know that need practice but do I need to worry about breaking my axal when I pull the E brake or blowing out the engine (the engine only this 146hp stock is that enough) what about brakes, do i need bigger brake or what

brakes shoudl b cool. I would want more torque than hp for drifting. If axle goes out, get another one

Just start drifting, and see what you feel needs to be improved. Then come back with specifics on what you want to do.

However, like InitialDisReal said, you probably want DTSS elminators.

^to elaborate on the reasoning behind this- DTSS will make the handling unpredictable during drift.

practice. practice. practice. after that you should make sure you have an lsd (if its a gxl then you do, i dont think any oher n/a's have them stock tho). you should also get a second set of shitty wheels with shit tires to practice on. then when you start getting more into it, DTSS eliminators will help along with stiffeinig of the cahsis and suspension, and of course more power will make breaking traction easier. lose som eweight off the car (particularly the rear, like your spare tire), and the last touch could be some extra steering angle. there is a group buy for these right now: https://www.rx7club.com/potential-advertisers-223/superangle-tie-rods-fc-fd-724090/#post7988708 but of course, as everyone else has said, prctice and experience are better than any mods.

BALL JOINTS! make sure they are in good condition. one blew out when i was drifting. i got lucky and nothing else got damaged. i replaced it, but was stupid and didnt replace the other side. went out again and blew the other side out, and this time it fucked up my tie rod end and snapped my strut at the welds where the steering knuckle bolts on. so make sure theyre good, this can run you ALOT of money.

Better suspension (though a stock one is ok if you're cool with bouncing around all the time), brakes/brake fluid. That's about it. Oh yeah, and tires are pretty important too. Any tires are fine, but I find drifting with new tires feels a lot better.

But if you've got a little more money in your pocket, you could get an LSD (better handling. A viscous diff will kill your drift) and bucket seats (so you're not getting thrown around while you're behind the wheel). Those are all the things that I think are necessary.

I could go even further with upgrades to make your car faster or easier to drift, but I think I've listed all the essentials

Get like two parts cars for cheap. And a set of steel wheels Because they are cheap. And build up relationships with local tire shops you can often get used tires for 2-10 dollars.

+1 for the tire shop. i have the same situation as my uncle runs a tire shop so i get used tires for dirt cheap + free mount/balancing. helps you save for other mods ALOT

If you dont want your car to break while drifting then I suggest not drifting.

If you break shit, shit happens and thats part of it. If it's your daily then you should get everything in pristine condition first so it's less likely that things break, but that will cost you alot of money.... even more so than a nissan or Toyota. So all in all I suggest getting another car for daily use before you go to crazy at the track.................

+1^ you shouldn't take a car to the track that you can't afford to lose for awhile due to repairs. also +2 for keeping it off the streets

First if you don't have a lsd stop pretending your drifting. Lsd should be first on the list, open rears are unpredictible and often correct for mistakes. An open rear will open mid drift and often make the car straighten out before it spins. You're wasting your time with an open rear. Second get DTSS eliminators, DTSS will also straighten your car out when you are on the edge of traction and often make the car unpredictable. Next you can do your suspension mods, this will make the car a little more predictible during transitions and any bumps in the track. Second to last is steering angle, getting know your car when it has little angle will yield great progress compared to a car with lots of angle. And lastly add power, more power makes it easier to hold a drift and you will get better faster without it.

So just to list it off ...... First Lsd...... Second DTSS eliminators .......... thrid steering angles ............... forth checking the ball joints....... fith suspension..... lastly more power is that about right ?? is there is anything that anyone wants to add??

I have been drifting for almost 4 years now and I can hop in just about any RWD vehicle and feel comfortable.

Personally I think coilovers are more important than steering angle. Simply because even if you have a shitton of angle if the car is rolling all over the place it will be much harder to control and it sucks. The faster the car settles the easier it is to control. Once you get better you can start adding more angle so you can hold steeper angle mid drift.

yeah, camber helps the car drift better, but it's a lot harder to control. I don't know if it's even legal to drive a car w/ adjusted camber on public roads...

anyway, i'd be sweet if you could get a hookup from a local tire shop!... Not a bad idea at all...
