DIY cage 8pt-10pt cage all under $300

Some of us die hungry drifters are poor, and still want our cars top notch.. When I would drift my car to the left my whole chassis would be tweaked and my car's alignment would be off, I would need to drift a hard right to make my car's alignment straight again. Even when I jack up my car from oneside, my doors wont open or close, thats how bad my fc chassis is. Heres what I found for fc3s salvation..

http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Broke-Di...__W0QQ_armrsZ1 they have cages for almost every car made. For the fc3s, they make 10pt and 8pt cages. I saw this deal and couldnt pass it up, I read the feedbacks and everyone said it fits. I ordered the 8pt and it was about $280 total including shipping. I test fitted it today, everything fits awesome, the cuts are about 70-80% acurate so alil bit of grinding is required, and I began to mig weld the center bars.. I gotta say its heavy duty steel, its pretty legit.. Im working on removing the sound deadeners so I can weld it to a plate that it includes, and plates to the chassis..

after the internal chassis is prepped , Im going to mig weld the plates to the bars and to the chassis.. Then prepare for fresh new inteior paint .. I must say it feels like a d1 car sitting inside with a cage lol..Its even hard to get in/out of the car, a quick release is recomended lol. Im pretty sure the next event I go to with the cage, the car will run more consistent, and no more chassis flex.

more pics uploadin, sorry my cam sucks, but hey I hope this idea helps some of you guys!

You can see the side door bar..

everything fits awesome, I cant wait till my chassis is prepped for welding!!! Oh yeah one thing, you need a bucket seat to fit the side bars, the stock seat wont fit.

Not bad, but damn, those are pretty huge gaps!

61620B 03-18-09 11:46 AM

looks more like a drag racing cage...

Silkworm 03-18-09 12:57 PM

Not sure if it's a drag legal cage, but it's definitely not SCCA/IT or NASA legal. But sounds like the OP isn't really concerned about that part, just stiffness, and I'm sure that'll help some.

Looks good, have fun!

I removed the sound deadener today with dry ice! it worked like magic, it would just crack the deadener.. Going to weld it in tomarrow at school.. will keep update!

hm whats the difference between a drag cage, and a tour car track cage, or drift cage?

13bturbofc 03-18-09 06:52 PM

there is alot of variations and the rules for design and quality of the cage are very strict if your running in a true NHRA or SCCA race...the SCCA usually requires an insane amount of bars in specific locations..do a google search for NHRA roll cage requirements..ect.

lol fanboy. ur the one with the initial d avatar.

drftwerks 03-19-09 12:14 AM

dude there was a bolt in cage like not too long ago for about the same price, you really need to do some research before you do stuff or buy parts.

dkwasherexd 03-19-09 12:17 AM

dood all the sound deadening together in a fc weighs almost 20 pounds !!! no joke.
shits abitch... ineterior is guna look reall fresh once its painted.. and no more chassis flex:icon_tup:

USS CJ 03-19-09 12:48 AM

dude

Id imagine this is just fine for drifting. $300 is nice.

Fags complaining should go back to hiding porn from their fat girlfriends.

Jesse[SM] 03-19-09 01:07 AM

but you need an NHRA certified cage for drifting dooooood...oh wait...

Haha. That was good.

I didn't even realize it was initial d until you said something about it. Oh well. I've been meaning to switch that to an xxr 002.

Cage is sweet tho.

It looks like your cage would just flatten/bow out from top force due to those inward bends on the main halo.

Something like this seems better structurally.

If he's gonna hit something hard enough to bend those bars he's going to end up punching them straight out the sheet metal at the bottom of the car, since those bars aren't going to weld to the subframe.

Is it the greatest cage, no it's not. Is it the stiffest cage he could install? no it's not. but hey, he's doing something, better than doing it on out there with nothing at all.

NoPistons! 03-20-09 02:01 AM

Definately better than nothing. Stiffens the chassis up and provides some protection in the event of a collison/roll over. Fuck. That's my worst fear. rolling my shit and being trapped while gas is pouring out of the car. I dont mind bleeding to death or something like that but being stuck crushed and/or burned alive. Not for me, thank you. Dont want to go out like that. My shit getting caged next year i hope.

dkwasherexd 03-20-09 03:29 AM

Me and my classmate welded the cage in the car together today. Spent most of the time fitting it and grinding it to fit right. The cage is welded together, juts needs to be welded to the plates onto the chassis now. I gott say it looks sick, its hard to get out when people park so close to me!!!lol We couldve finished welding it all in but I had to help My friend Ryan fix his r33 dents..

Take a picture of the door bars from inside the car to give us a drivers side view of how akward you look climbing out of the car.

Maybe lambo doors are justified now? Lol!

Silkworm 03-20-09 05:27 PM

I assume you're going to finish those welds, right?

dkwasherexd 03-20-09 05:51 PM
