Diff Stud Replacement

Hey guys, I wanted to know if anyone has ever replaced the diff studs/spikes on their 7. I had to cut about a 1/4 inch off one because a nut refused to not cross thread 8 months ago and now the other one decided to strip out as soon as it starts to get tight :icon_no2:

So I cut two holes in the hatch area to take a peek at how Mazda welded them in. Pretty sturdy stuff, it looks like it's gonna be a pain to cut them out. I remember seeing a write up about subframe stud replacement which seemed similar but i thought i'd ask so i could get some more advice on it or info.

If someone has a better idea then cutting them out I'm all ears to that too :icon_tup:

Could you not clean them up with a thread cutting die instead?

they always fuck up when the diff slides down/up when you dont remove the subframe all the way to change the diff, and leave the front mount still bolted..
slices the shit out of your fingers too, don't ask me how i know....

yeah, i don't even bother trying to remove one or the other anymore, learned that lesson quick. i drop the whole thing every time now and i've got it down to a science sadly enough. i think it only took me 15 or 20 minutes last time :icon_no2:

that's not the thread I was thinking of but should be good enough. the thread I remember the OP replaced the diff studs and the sub frame studs, his were rusted solid. far more pics and more of a write-up.

well the subframe ones are definately a LOT easier then the diff studs. the diff studs are welded in multiple places.
