Which to choose
FD, FC, or rx8 for drifting.
I am new to drifting and this will be my first drift car/project car. I'm looking for some input on which to choose. Eventually my "real" drift car would be a FD but i'm not sure if i want to just dive straight in and start out with it or choose another good drift car such as a 240. |
if you wanna be cool buy an fd or rx8 the most logical starting platform would be an fc their cheap parts are more readily available and if you smash into a wall it only a couple hundred for a new shell... but anyways i would do an FD with an rx8 front
|
What can you afford?
Speed costs $$ If you start with a more exspensive FD or rx8, then maybe you have less money to make the vehicle drift worthy. The less exspensive the cost of the drift vehicle initially, usually means more money to make the car drift worthy. FD and rx8 both over 10g's to start with before drift mods. An FC and 8g's will get you a kick ass drift worthy car! Hell, an FC and 5 or 6g's will get you caged, suspension, and quite a few engine mods. |
just buy a running turbo 2 get coilovers and a seat and have some fun
|
The reason why i'm thinking of going straight FD is because a FD would be my 2nd drift car/my real project car. Although a FC is hella cheap i may just have to start with that and work my way up. On a side note i can get a rx8 for about $3000 or so which is a bit more then a turbo II but also a much nicer platform.

Slow down speed racer haha. You're only on your 13th post...
All are good platforms, but an FC is where it's at. Cheap and easy to modify. FD's and RX8's have wonderful suspensions, but aren't really suited for ease of adjustment. There is a reason you don't see MANY of them in professional drift series and almost none at the grassroots level. |

OP just get what you think you'll be able to afford, if you can pick up an rx8 or an FD then get it. At the end of the day you're the one that's going to drop the coin on the car and future parts.... |
talk to kyle mohan about this stuff. he campaigned the fc for a long long time and moved to rx8. he could give you the best real world advice, i think.

Well i can technically afford the FC or the rx8, only different is the Rx8 i could only put about $3000 into it at first. I mean rx8's run 3-4k these days so its not that bad. |
