best fc setup for drifting.
 

hey i have a turbo II and im working on making it my track car. i was wanting to see what setups some of you had on your cars.
ex:spring rates on coilovers
best tires/wheel setup
ect.......

Best setup?


Go out there and drive the piss out of your car.

Making sure everything is in tip top shape and underhood temps stay down is more important than stuff like "spring rate" and "tires"......

Really.

Making it a track car: Cage, seats, harnesses, afterrmarket LSD, modded knuckles, coilovers, new bushings, wheel bearings and tierods, adjustable everything out back and anything you can do to keep it cool.

You dont have to be a smartass. It actually does matter. I plan on seat harness cage diff koyo rad tierods ect ect...

What part are you guys using and how r they working out i guess is the question.

No point/need to go all out until you at the limits of where you are already. Soon as you drive a car to the limits its easy to see what its weakness is (with your driving style) and buy stuff to adjust it from there.

BUT for what its worth, heres my basic susp/chasis spec, its like it as I bought it like it, mostly so I didnt have to go to the expense of doing it myself...

Mazda Speed 2way LSD - 4.1 final drive.
JIC Magic Coilovers.
Adjustable front top mounts turned 45deg extra castor, set to maximum.
Solid rear top mounts.
6Kg Springs.
9x17 ET -15 fronts.
10x18 ET + 18 rears.
235/40x17 fronts.
265/35x18 rears.
KSP solid subframe bushes.
Pilowball rear subframe links.
Rear camber adjusters.
Strengthened and modified rear arms.
Modified front knuckles for more lock.
Front and rear strut braces.
Spot welded chassis.
Saitou roll cage.
Cant give you exact numbers, but lots of front camber and castor, zero rear camber, and little or no toe front or rear.
Weighs about 1050kg too, which has a LOT to do with how a car behaves, so dont forget that.

That, with about 350bhp, was enough for it to win a few events in '06, inc D1SL and MSC rounds, if that counts for much.

Biggest setup improvment for ANY car is the skills of the driver though, esp in drifting, 90% driver, 10% car.

What parts do you want to know about? It sounds like you need to go drive your car so you can ask better questions. Too much armchair racing on your part.

i guess this is kinda on the subject... but

how strict are events about helmets becuase i brought my jank ass helmet i got from UG for $60 home with me. it was made in like 1989 and pretty sure it would fail any inspection. but it looks rad. anybody know?

I think it has to carry proper certification. Snell2000 or something like that.

To the OP, setting yourself up with some seat time is really the best thing as previously stated. Reasoning behind this is that every driver is different. I may like lots of negative camber front with none in the rear. You may like it with tad less than me in the front.
There's just so many variables that are driver preference. Sure...we could sit here and spit out manufacturer names and numbers but the reality is that it means dick to you cause your a different person.
Go out and drive. Judge how the car reacts. Say the car wallows in the corner, buy an appropriate coilover setup and set it to where you think it feels good. And so on... If you go off someone else's setup your gonna have this preconceived notion that it's supposed to be that one way when in reality a similar yet different setup better suits your style.

everyone has different opinions on setups because everyone drives their own style.

learn your own style and set your car up off of that

Welded diff,Tokico shocks set stiff front,soft back, and take the sway bars off.Thats how i started a year ago before i done anything more.Just master your drift skills and you get the feel of what the car wants.If you wants looks then it a different story....cause the wall and cones wll mess up your body really good.

This is me before Stock NA GXL Rx7 (pretty much stock everything) and after a year NOW Rx7(3 Rotor turbo)Very comfortable to drive with more power and the SKILL.I learn a lot on the Stock Rx7..........TONS OF FEEDBACK.
