Average offset/spacing with mod knuckles

I know the way the knuckles are modded and other parts will determine the actual angle you'll pull but what's the average offset/spacing needed to make use of them?

I'm swapping knuckles from my track shell over to my street car for an event at the end of the month.
It's currently on Ksport Kontrol Pro's with 17x8 rims with 35mm offset. As is now, I rub inner fender at full stock lock.

I'm guessing I'll need at least 20mm more(15 offset range) to make them work. Any thoughts or spacers/numbers you're running?

Any tricks to get it under the stock fenders? Roll the living shit out of them? Or do I have to raise my car
Closest pics I have of current depth/fitment

im running 215s on 17x8 -6 offset and i still hit frame and a arm long before i hit lock.

laramiejoe 08-04-11 02:48 PM

I'm running 17x9 -8 and I don't rub, but I don't even have 50 degreez of angle.

J.T.P. 08-04-11 03:07 PM

17x9.5 around -16 with 55deg of angle

Digi7ech 08-04-11 03:24 PM

Yikes, So I'm looking at needing 30+ mm more just to get a decent amount usable.

justin is right on the money as always.

get rid of those wheels already homie! lol

and regarding the fenders you could be super sketchy guy and raise the car and pull your fender/hammer it out which is super ugly but will work - or just get 45mm front fenders and be done with it.. i think jtp will have some available soon from what chance was saying.

Yeah, doing this for a memorial drift event at the end of the month.

Fenders and wheels will have to wait till next month.

Still gotta buy tires to burn, tie rod end links, and then what ever spacer I need to get working this month.

what spindles are you using? for mine i am running a 30mm but im rubbing tire on chassis/rear LCA portion and it locks my wheels up pretty gnarly.
i need a 50mm or way more aggressive wheels (the smart option)

you'll definitely need 45mm+ fronts. it will be cool to just raise it now and space it. if you plan on just tossing your fenders in the trash do what we did to backalleyracer's FC and just hammer it all out/flare it.

DR_Knight 08-04-11 07:55 PM

18x9.5 -5. only issues I have are from being too low from running 18s

Digi7ech 08-04-11 09:08 PM

Here are the spindles I have. They came on a shell I bought. No name local weld..... We'll see if I snap a wheel lol

I'm guessing this is a total compromise placement and won't work as well as cutting and shortening.

damn does no one cherish their life/investments these days? lol

fuck it run it and see!

Digi7ech 08-04-11 09:17 PM

^can't beat came free on a $300 chassis lol.

I'm a bit worried but what ever. Hopefully it snaps at a good place to tow my car off the track lol

J.T.P. 08-04-11 09:19 PM

yeah, that's definitely in the wrong place... i bet you got it on that red shell??

Digi7ech 08-04-11 09:33 PM

Gold 87 GXL shell from a kid named Jorge here in Phx.

You guys think this is even usable?

Or should I just skip it and use the stock locations?

driftfcbuckey 08-04-11 10:18 PM

it would be a little better than stock but like justin's saying the location sucks. you wouldn't be able to get the alignment to zero toe or anywhere near.

not to mention that looks like some ghetto mig welds.

its up to you if you want to risk your car possibly your safety and whomever else could be in our around your car...

if it were me i wouldn't run them at all. you should just keep the ones on your car until you get legitimate spindles.

Digi7ech 08-04-11 10:37 PM

The ones on my car have bad bearings. The wheels have 1/2 inch of play.

driftfcbuckey 08-04-11 11:07 PM

i would swap hubs and not the spindles then
thats just me.

you could sell them and buy good spindles?

stevensimon 08-05-11 12:25 AM

Just gusset them on either side and you will be fine. With gussets it has to be at least as strong as all these butt joint spindles.

gussets will help yes but again the location is so off its unbelievable. he will have to cut so much of his tie rod to get it to align almost straight that it wont do much.

i've went through 2 sets of custom spindle designs trust me these will suck.

stevensimon 08-05-11 11:55 AM

ah that makes sense kind of.

i have a set similar to this that turbo2rotor sent me with gusseted pieces and heim joints. i did have to shorten my tie rods but i still rub before i get lock. i understand what youre saying now so i shall have to rethink my spindles.

Digi7ech 08-05-11 12:49 PM

I guess I'm using stock pick ups for now then.

On gotta make it look retarded to be a cool drifter news. I spray painted them Metalcast Purple with glitter clear coat lol

J.T.P. 08-05-11 02:53 PM

like buckey said it's not worth risking your safety to get angle that's not even designed correctly.. the ackerman is off by so much it's funny..

but hey, at least the wheel bearings are in good shape! lol

Vell 08-05-11 07:17 PM

Can't you get some benefits from zeroing the ackerman effect ?
(as it seems to be done this way in the picture)
