spray painting help

Hey guys
Im currently doing a spray restoration on the roof of one of my other cars, the base coat has turned out alright, but the clear coat has not come out glossy at all, even after i have cut and polished the hell out of it. Im using acrylic top coat clear at a ratio if 1 part clear to 1.5 parts thinners out of a hvlp gravity fed gun and a 1.4mm tip. Ive done about 4 coats abt nothings working.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Not sure what the mix ratio is but I have never seen a mix ratio like that. All products I have used mixed out 4:1. What temp did you shoot the paint at?

Could be the way the guns set too

And you gotta spray it like you want it to look like when dry it's not like base like when your putting down med coats you gotta lay clear slick but not slick enough to run it and flash time is critical

Depends what type of compound you're using and how you're wet sanding.
Easiest shelf type to find is Meguiars Ultimate compound. Using a 1500 and 2000 wet sand then compound should bring out the shine. You can never do it by hand so I'm sure you're using a buffing tool. By hand can't be done except small areas. I've ran out of good compound and used cheaper compound and works pretty well but then again, wet sanding need to be done properly. 1500 is heaviest I'd use or else you'll have scratch marks.

With clearcoat, you'll never get the shine out without good compound. Too harsh and it works against you.
