Thought I would share my project this time around with the board. I did a Mazda rebuild install and a repaint in 1999 and am in the process of doing it again. All of the engine and related work is done and now am in the body work phase. Should be ready to shoot paint in two weeks from now.
A list of what was done this time around Work performed by Kevin Landers: Rebuild rotary with all new seals and mazda oem apex seals ( internal coolant leak started all this) New fuel rail with pulsation damper wheel bearings new silicone vacuum hose job Kevin did a great job and the car runs great from day one Items I replaced since picking it up in Tenn Transmission mounts front differential mount Clutch kit (oEM) and fifth gear syncronizer replaced new master cylinder for clutch and brakes clutch slave all soft brake lines and clutch lines rebuilt all 4 calipers Racing beat full exhaust :header, presilencer, y-pipe and mufflers My cousin is a professional painter at a chain of various branded dealerships here in atl and we will be spraying the car in his booth. But he is guiding and helping me prep it here at the house. The color will be in BMW waterbased basecoat color "Black Ruby Metallic" X03 also called rubinschwartz in germany. Paint is BMW color systems which is made by Standox. Thought I would share the process for those interested. Started by painting what i could under the hood without removing engine. Wasnt in that bad of shape and looks pretty good now. I didnt do the firewall, just the front and fender areas |

Bumper had some bad spots, but we fixed them with Evercoat Poly-flex. Good stuff. Just couldn't see paying $700 bucks for a new cover.

Had to paint the jams and the Underside of the deck lid myself in the garage. Just couldn't take it in the booth for 2 trips. Came out pretty nice for an amateur. I used some Sata-90 guns

He took my door handles and mirrors to work and painted them already here is the final product. I had to get the halogen light on it just right to bring out the red pearl. It mostly just looks black until the sun hits it.

red pearl? Hey - great pictures!! I just bough a 98 vert myself, and am going to be getting into the restoration hobby, it seems. Mine looks like a kid tried to give it the 'shaved' look, then had an engine fire, and replaced the 89 engine with an 86... and the stock hood (aluminum?) with a heavier steel hood... what a mess! Hopefully I'll get to your stage at some point!

To update here are the finished pictures after painting. The car came out really nice. Will be cutting and buffing in a couple weeks for that show car slickness.
