Pics of my FD after detail!!!

Well, Ive had the car for about a month now. When I bought it from the previous owner, it wasn't Vintage Red but VERY Faded Red. I went to a local Subaru detail meet (I used to own a Subaru) and here's the outcome. Made me reconsider repainting my car. I have never liked the color red but it's beginning to grow on me. Now the question is, should I repaint it Vintage Red, another shade of red, or my original plan, black?

nice job

Looks great, it's amazing what detailing products can do to old paint.
What was used?

Nothing like the power of a little TLC :)

Paint it black

What was used?

Wash, claybar, compounding and wax. It was done by Surfside Mobile Detailing.

Now the question is, what kind of black? Regular black or something with pearl?

Rxseben 02-22-07 01:52 PM

How much did you pay?

7_rocket 02-22-07 01:53 PM

Brilliant black :)

Looks great! Red is a great color to bring back to life - a little elbow grease and you can totally rejuvenate a red paint job.

PLEEEESE don't paint it black. That's the one thing I dislike about my car - it ALWAYS looks dirty, and shows EVERYTHING on the paint. Bleh!

$140 and they worked on my car for about 4.5 hours!!! Well worth it IMO.

Night and day difference - for $140 that is well worth it. Nice looking car man!

Black is gorgeous, but in the same respect so is red.

I presonally own a black, and was not a fan of red, but this car looks amazing.

Just promise me this one thing....

paint the whole car please, I hate when people half ass things and have a red engine bay with a black body. These cars have a lot of class and that is one of the fastest ways to lose it.

I'm all for the keeping it Vintage Red.

Wow what a transformation. Looks beautiful.

I say you leave it for a little while since you just got the car, red may grow on you and you may end up liking it more then black.

I agree, don't cheap out on the paint, a car so beautiful deserves a paintjob no less.

I have a BB, and it does show a lot of dirt, but I wouldn't have it any other color.

Off topic, but what software program do you use to "frame" your pics in black? I'd love to do this but can't seem to find the right software product to accomplish the job. Should be easy or so I thought.

I originally wanted a BB R1 but I got a great deal on this one. I dont think I can afford a proper paint job (engine bay, etc...) $3k, so I think I'll just eventually just have it repainted Vintage Red or a different shade of red so when I open the hood, it wont be that big of a deal and I'll fix all the little nicks and dings. The car overall has a very straight body since I am only the second owner.

I did not take the pics, one of my Subaru buddies did. I think you can do it with photoshop when your resize pics.

A7X 02-22-07 04:08 PM

i can do all that at work 4 free :)

TRISPEEDFD3S 02-22-07 04:48 PM

Very nice work, and now all you have to do is keep it that way!

Rxseben 02-22-07 05:15 PM

If you do paint it black, it's going to be a real pain in the ass to look "nice". Black really exposes every little imperfection/defect on the paint (due to how the black paint reflects light, just compare how a black car reflects compared to a light color car like white). Dirt, contamination, fallout, swirls, minor scratches, etc. It's a really high maintenance color. Keeping it looking "nice" will require lots of work, from proper wash formulas, cleaning materials, minor polishing every now and then etc.

I detail cars so i really can't stand looking at a car's exterior that isn't perfect (but that's my thing :p: ). If you don't mind the maintenance (money for detailing or your own time and effort) or the way it looks when it's not perfect, then more power to you. I would leave it red (I'd perfer clearcoated since single stage paints tend to fade easier than CC even with proper care, clear coated is more durable and gives more depth tot he car's paint) or some other color that isn't completely dark.

preludesh2000 02-22-07 05:28 PM

looks good....i luv a freshly detailed car.... :icon_tup:
now just keep it clean(wash it by hand)...keep it away from spray and washes...high pressure water kills a good wax job....

Pure Awesome!

RE-Amemiya 02-22-07 06:53 PM

Amazing what a difference a detail can make on a car's appearance.

Keep it VR

yusoslo 02-22-07 07:43 PM

now wash it 3-4 times and see how it looks. I mean its nice but the wax and polish will fade away.

repaint it.
