painting engine parts?
 

So I want to paint some parts on my 13b. I have never done it before and need some advice and tips on how to do it. The parts I'm looking to paint for now are just my pullys, and thermostat housing.

I use Duplicolor paints.
Available at most auto parts stores and the paint holds up very well.
Start by cleaning the parts well, and if you can media blast them. If not a good scuffing up will help the paint stick.
Next I use a self etching Primer. This will actually etch itself into the parts and create a good bond.
Then spray on your base coat. I use Duplicolor High temp Engine Enamel. It works very well.
Depending on color and look it could take 2-3 coats.
Last I use the same product in clear to help finish it off. This ads a nice layer of shine and if it does get dirty, it wipes right off.

Am also using duplicolor as well. You REALLY have to clean them up well. I used a wire brush and a whole lot of hours before I got them clean. Then I used high temp enamel primer and then painted it with two nice coats before a final laquer finish and a short bake in the spraypaint shop next to me. :D
Pardon the quality as Im too much of a bum to get my cellphone upgraded so I'm stuck with a crappy camera :(

You could try using 400micron sandpaper to roughen the part you wanna spray before the primer coat so the thing eats in better.

Quick Question.... Has any of you ever used wheel paint for the motor?
The thing is that Rustoleum has this metallic silver that looks sick and I want to use this color on the motor and no one has this color for Engine enamel.

To be honest. Even $3 Canned acrylic spray paint works. I'm currently using that on my new motor, 5000 miles and it looks as good as new.
