Had a professional wetsand and detail my FD this weekend

Today was an exciting day--- it turns out one of my neighbors has been in the auto paint/detail business for 15 years and he offered to wetsand and detail my FD for a very reasonable price.
He brought home all his supplies from work (to include 3000 grit sanding pads) and the car turned out amazing. It's never looked so good, in person the paint appears almost flawless. One thing though, Scrub and I have a track day with the NJ/DE Viper club in a few days, so I guess the car won't be shiny for long  I posted up some 'after' pics of the car in the 3rd Gen Pics thread, but I here are some pictures that chronicle the progress he made. It took him about 2 hours the night before to prep the car and then he was on it almost nonstop Saturday from 10am til about 5:30 at night. This includes applying 'back to black' to all of the trim pieces, wetsanding all three rear tail light portions, cleaning rims/tires, cleaning all jams of the back hatch, fuel door, hood etc. https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...8&d=1281314469 https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...9&d=1281314469 https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...0&d=1281314469 https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1281314469 https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...2&d=1281314469 |

Some more 'in progress' pics, I believe he used about 4 coats each of 3M professional-grade polish and wax.

I hate you...lol. Sorry, I'm in hater mode. Nah, I'm just messin with you. Looks sweet. How much did it run you if you don't mind me asking?
I'm going to have to post my results of using Duplicolor Bumper Coating on my 99 Spec Lip and Cowl so you never have to use Back to Black ever again. |
Holy crap looks like a new car :)
|
nice, beautiful. I would love to see mine after a detail like that. I don't have '99 spec front end, just not a huge fan, but gorgeous none the less. I guess you'll have to "invite" your neighbor more often!
Speaking of neighbors, I met a guy around my place that has a ls1 in his 240. So, as he is looking in my garage and see's my FD, he's like ... "hey can I check out your rx7". I'm thinking... sure, can I check out your girlfriend :) So was this detail more than $500 bucks? What size are your Enkei's (RPF1)? |
The pricing was very reasonable because he knew I was going to be bringing more FDs his way
(his cousin owns a rotary shop in the area and he's a big fan of FDs, which helps a bit) He told me each car is a bit different to quote depending on the condition they're in, but to duplicate what he did on my car would be right around $450. Any NY/NJ area guys interested in his contact info shoot me a PM, if you're a buddy of mine he can do it right in my driveway :icon_tup: |
Now all you need to do Rich is to start cleaning the underbody of your car and it will be as clean as it was when it came off the assembly line.

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...3&d=1281314811 How do you like those zeals? John |
Looks excellent Rich! Very impressive work. Worst part about detailing is that you have to drive the car afterwards...in your case, race it lol.
|
very clean!!!! looks new! just got a huge boner :awesome:
|
John, I'll let you know on the Zeals after wednesday ;)
|
looks good Rich, people reading this should really take caution in trying this themselves, it can be real easy for a novice to burn the paint right off their car.
Was your car original paint? |

Clean up Isle 1 |
honestly its hard for me to tell the difference she was super clean beforehand; Its pictures like this that make me sad my car is faded to pink, has spoiler holes and dents :(
|
Looks amazing. I recently did a simple clay bar and polish/wax treatment to my paint and it came out really well, ill have to apply some of that back to black and try wet sanding the tails, its all those little details that make the difference.

WOW. great job. Looks like a new car...
