Important message to ALL DGRRX registered attendees... I need your HELP!
First of all, I want to thank you all for registering for DGRRX. This year is turning out to be the BEST DGRR EVER!!!
I would love to make this a completely FREE event but unfortunately, the time, effort, and what all it goes into this event, some fee is needed to run this event. I also greatly appreciate you all driving from all over the country to attend this event... I believe that its unfair when select few locals refuse to register and want to crash this event by just showing up. I mean, I even have to drive over 500 miles total to get there and back. To avoid this, I need help from all of you. This year, I'm going to buy a plastic name tag holder and I would like all of you to wear it where it could be easily seen. We'll also have several volunteers walking abouts to see if you are wearing your name tag and ask you to wear it. Please don't take this personal nor get angry if one of the volunteers ask you about your name tag. They are not accusing you, just wanted to make sure you have registered for the event and signed the waiver. If you see people who are NOT wearing a name tag, please tell one of the volunteers and they will approach to the individual(s) and ask them to show their name tag. Name tag this year will be your ID to attend award ceremony and if you win a prize, we will ask you to turn in the name tag holder for exchange with the prize (as we could re-use it next year... if we have another DGRR :) ). Again, I'm trying to be reasonable and be fair to all the attendees of DGRRX. Thank you! PHILIP SOHN |
count on me. i hate people that try and get shit for free.

just to verify:
You are supplying the name tags? or do we? |
I don't mind to wear a name tag. I think it's actually a good idea. This way you will see just how many people don't register for the event.

Phil,
I'm registered and staying at the Nantahala. I guess some that are staying at other places do not know they need to register to attend the event. I have asked a few "are you registered" and the response was "no, I'm not staying at the Nantahala" Do you require every rotorhead that attends to pay a registration fee? Thanks, Anthony |

Thanks, Anthony If they are rotary guys and want to come to the event, park, use the NVNC facility during the event, get a T-shirt, etc., then I suggest them to register. If they are say, your friend or spouse who's not interested in cars and just tagging along with you to help you drive to the event and will be going to go do 'other' things around town, I am OK with them not registering but still come by the registration booth and sign a waiver and get a name tag. If they are rotary guys and they just can't afford to pay the registration fee, I'll be happy to work something out with them. But any case, I highly recommend registering.. Best way to put it would be, this is same as if they were to goto any closed track or car show where admission is required. If they refuse to pay, most places will not let them in. If they try to sneak in by not paying, its same as stealing and will be ask to leave the area or legal action will be taken. But I understand that its a tough time and I will do my best that registration is least thing they need to worry about if money is an issue. Unfortunately I have to do this to be fair to everyone (who paid) and also for legal purposes. This event is held at private property or rented property, which gives me the rights to ask those who act irresponsibly at the event. Hope you all understand why I am doing this. This is to keep this event a professional event and not some random get together where everyone just shows up and do whatever they wish to do. |
I 100% completely agree and support you Phil. Too much blood, sweat, and tears (of yours and others) have gone into organizing an event of this magnitude to just let someone walk in w/out authorization/paying.
Most high end car events I attend have a fee just to walk in as standard and that doesn't even include a t-shirt and chances to win prices |
For the amount of miles that many of us drive, I view it as pretty insulting if you can't pay 25 bucks to attend the event. If you're that broke, you can't put gas in your car to get there, right?

^^^^^+1
This would be my 3rd time going to the Gap, all 3 times I've taken guests with me that are more interested in other activities that have nothing to do with the Rotary Rally, all 3 times I've paid registration fees for all my guests, simply because I fully support this event. Yes the economy is rough right now, but if you cannot afford to register, then you simply can't afford to come to this event. If you can't afford $25, then you can't afford to have your car in decent shape to run at the Dragon, and basically are putting many of us at risk. If you can't afford $25, then you can't afford the gas to make it there, nor can you afford the gas needed for the many runs we do through the Gap, the Skyway and everywhere in between. If you can't afford $25, then you obviously can't afford 3 days worth of food and honestly, we don't want you to starve, we rather you stay home and put those $25 bucks on your piggy bank for next years event. end/rant. |
i think we should all help phil get the word out to register. i have told everyone from south florida (SE Section) to make sure they register. the only ones that have yet to register are the ones that are not 100% sure they are going to attend. i suggest everyone help spread the word in their respective regional sections!!!
