Got my FD home, thanks Ihor Goodfella Jacob Joe Mike Vila and Luke!

It was looking like a 500 mile tow truck job to haul my FD back to Columbus after it did not want to start while getting gas.
But.....after some interesting ways to re start a dead FD like push starting it in the gas station (me yelling at Vila and Mike do it like you mean it) changing plugs at the pump and flagging down locals for a tow we got it started, sorta.

The car was running but not making any power so we resighned ourseves to the triple A call ,I think we all got back to the lodge at 11 oclock with a sick FD.
All six of us missed the banquet and my fellow Rotorheads were seriously put out for hanging out.
At any time they could have said see you later but they did not, thanks for the moral support guys.

What was amazing when we got the car off the trailer Jacob,Luke and Joe were ready to start working on it,in the dark! "lets do a compression test" the motor was ok so we had a few beers and planned on fixing it sunday morning.

We did all the basics again deflooding, changing the plugs again (I owe you Jacob) and after 3 hours we were running out of options and scratching our heads,it was really looking like I was going to have to make the phone call again.
I asked if there was anyone left that knew their way around a PFC,there where some weird things going on that we knew about,Ihor and Rich came over and it was like,
"do this" "look at that" "lets try this out" within 20 minutes we got it started and running and discovered the ecu was resetting itself to the stock settings and because we have similar injector sizes we were able to get the % close to get home.Awesome! :)
Thanks to everyone, you guys are the best.

Glad you made it.

I'm glad you made it home, Carl. Let me know where you take your PFC to get re-tunned and let me know how it turns out. I could use one myself.

IRPerformance 04-24-07 07:42 AM

Thanks for the kind words Carl. I have only seen that problem maybe one other time where the power pc would rest itself randomly and revert back to the base map. The first thing I noticed was the commander screen continued to be illuminated even after the ignition was turned off. I suspect either a bad computer or body harness. I forgot to mention that you might want to check above the fenders where the body harness runs. Sometimes with larger wheels and improper suspension settings the tires car hit it and rub through.

A lot of people chipped in to try and get the car running. I was amazed at the selflessness of everyone. The RX8's that hung with Carl, that's awesome. Not cell phone signal up there really sucked for this situation. I was one of the group leaders. So I was running the gap with people while they went into town at 3pm. When 7pm came around I was a little frustrated they were not there for the dinner. At 10pm when the dinner ended, I went to the cabin and they still were not back. Jacob knows the area and Luke was right behind us. We headed over the gap to be sure they were not stuck there. About half way, we passed a tow truc k with a white FD behind it. Good thing Vila's was the only white FD there. We turned around on the gap and went after then. I say "went after them", because that tow truck was hauling ass through the gap.
on Sunday we all went at trying to sort out the problem. The guy with the gold 2nd gen the brought his red truck was helping us too. Very cool guy(sorry I forgot your name). He had the ATF we used to get the car started. When we went to go find someone who could knew the PFC a bit, Rich's car was the only RX7 there at all. Everyone had all ready left to go home or on the sky way. I interrupted Rich, Ihor, and(guy with the rental Mustang that followed us down the gap on the way home, as a means to tow us if needed)having lunch to ask for there help. With no issue or hesitation, they say they would stop right over. Very cool guys. I was overwhelmed at how everyone there was so anxious to lend a hand. Thanks guys.

And to the couple that sat through dinner with us; they offered for me to use their car with more room, and I'm sure better on gas, to go look for Carl, Vila, and Mike. That was pretty amazing to offer your car up. Thank you.

^ Ihor Good point.

Where are you guys out of NJ?

I will be taking the fenders off to check the wiring,i,m overdue for a main harness replacement.

In fact I,m thinking about refeshing the motor and stripping the engine bay, repainting it and going through all the systems.
Just not looking foreward to the time commitment but it has got to be done.

IRPerformance 04-24-07 08:48 AM

Clifton NJ about 20 min west of New York City.

Carl, I'm happy we could help you out, and really glad to hear that you made it back in one piece, you definitely avoided a major tow bill :).

This definitely was an example of a bunch of rotorheads pulling together to help out, especially the guys that helped you to get the car back from TN to the lodge and spent hours troubleshooting the problem before we showed up.

If you're interested in having us build you a stout motor, PM me for more info......also, my apologies for almost giving you guys a heart attack when my foot slipped off the clutch :D

Also, glad to hear you made it back to Ohio safely and with the car.
