Phil is still working on nailing the date down.

You can check out www.dealsgaprotaryrally.com and see if he posts updates there.

PM me if you have any other questions.

ihavetwins 11-06-08 09:40 AM

im gonna try and make this one again.

GoodfellaFD3S 11-07-08 09:06 PM

Sucks, but I don't think I can make it this year :(

I CANT get another speeding ticket, and i got one each of the last two years, just cruising down the highway at 80mph.....

lt1_rx7 11-07-08 10:48 PM

Rich, have you considered cruising down at a speed a little less than 80mph?

FirstRotaryExp 11-07-08 11:21 PM

Or even better, have you ever considered investing in a better radar detector?

GoodfellaFD3S 11-08-08 06:03 PM

It doesnt get much better than a Valentine 1 with the latest software ;)

lt1_rx7 11-08-08 09:40 PM

just givin' you some hell, rich. a friend of mine when out to the dragon today with his boss and ended up with a 75 in 45 ticket.

FirstRotaryExp 11-08-08 11:20 PM

Then how are you going to get a ticket up there? Last half dozen times ive gone up over the summer with my V1 (older model) its at least 1-2 corners worth of warning, helped avoid an unmarked Explorer AND a THP pig-on-a-hog, all in the same afternoon.....

Perhaps you should just trade the FD in on a lower profile FC or FB and just leave the lights in the dust all the way to the state line?

That's great advice man, I think I'll look into that :icon_tup:

On a serious note, both tickets happened on the way down or the way back, the trip from NJ isn't exactly a short one.

Can I go 60 or 65 mph the whole way? sure. would it really suck? yes. I don't know, I'll think about it.....DGRR has been the highlight of my year (car-wise) the last two years :)

FirstRotaryExp 11-09-08 07:08 PM

well dont think too hard on it, if someone doesnt pay for those officers to harass us taxpaying motorists instead of fighting real crime...I dunno what they might do.

But I look forward to seeing as many rotaries and not so triangular powered mazda's at the next DGRR

turbo10th 11-09-08 08:01 PM

I really want to make it out this year. I have never been before. Hopefully some fellow MD guys will go so we can caravan down. My FD rebuild should be done in december so i should be good. Just need to know the dates to take off work and reserve a hotel.:icon_tup:

lt1_rx7 11-09-08 09:59 PM

yeah, i'll let people know when more info is available. Phil is still talking with one of the "villages" to finalize details.

Last year on our way down, the Canuck Caravan rarely dipped below 80MPH. Only problem we had is one guy in an FC lost his alt so he had to turn his lights off to keep his computer running, so an Ohio state trooper pulled over the R32 GTR instead. Yeah, it didn't make any sense to us either.

Man, you can basically blaze all the way from NJ to VA based on my experience, so I'm unsure why you have been so unlucky. I'm guessing you got stopped somewhere in Virginia, where the speed limit is lower than anywhere else along the way, right? Virginia troppers are bastards, they literally hide up in the bushes and between hills in medians trying to catch people, serious business.

because an r32 still looked stranger than an FC with the lights off?

Awkwardly enough I have had more tickets in a grey 04 civic and navy 91 beater accord than in the VR 7.

MaxxPower 12-19-08 09:11 PM

Deal's Gap, AKA Tail of the Dragon, AKA US129. 11 miles, 318 individual turns. Posted speed limit is 20/30MPH, hitting a top speed of probably 60 or 70 (I think, I was looking at the road more than the cluster) it takes about 20-30 minutes to go through. It's located on the North Carolina/Tenessee state line about an hour south of Knoxville.

See. No smash talk required.

rotory4life 12-22-08 02:18 PM
