New rotary owner - what to expect from the rally?
 

I bought my rx7 a little over a year ago and I know no one in the rotary community. I live close by so I registered for the rally but only plan on showing up Thursday evening for the cookout and most of the day Saturday.

What can I expect? I'm hoping it isn't weird to show up just for parts of this, but I've got work. What times should I try to be there? What are the events I really shouldn't miss? Are there a lot of parts for sale?

well how can I put this into words .. there is a little of everything . sat morning is the car show which is always nice . the event at addicted is nice as well

but atleast for me what really makes it special is the driving . since well lets face it these cars are fun to drive!

as for getting to know people in the rotary community you will have a great chance at doing that

no its not strange . for you to not do all the events . you do what you want to do .

The car show on Saturday is a great event and a great chance to meet people. All of us were new at some point. Just come up, introduce yourself, and ask questions. We are all pretty friendly, for the most part, and love talking about our cars. I'm an RX8 guy, but I'm staying in a cabin full of first gen's and I know a lot of the first gen people that regularly show up to this event. They are all friendly and will welcome you into the fold.

After the car show, most people will grab lunch and then head out to the dragon. During the car show, find a group of people you like and ask to tag along.

You may want to come to the damn by 5 pm Friday to get your car in the DGRR damn Dam
picture. Everyone will be there and its a great social gathering as we all get parked, pictures are
taken and milling about ensues. Since you are close this and the show Sat would be the two
biggies to go to. The buffet (that has no food) saturday night at Nantahala can be fun but
usually involves drinking to driving back to you home could be an issue.

I probably won't make the dam photoshoot but I'll get up bright and early Saturday to make it out there for the car show. Y'all look for me in a silver GSL-SE that needs a new paint job...

You'll have a great time. As stated, talk to people and find out about their cars. It's a really friendly group and I feel like it's going to a family reunion every year. There's a lot of nice first gens there, you can learn a lot and get a lot of good ideas on things to do to your car.

Driving the Dragon is amazing but I think that's 2nd to all the great people.

I have to agree with what everyone said about it being friendly and Dale put it well by likening it to a Family Reunion....look forward to meeting you Saturday. Don't be shy, introduce yourself to folks and ask questions. I will be in my Rx8 (as usual) but I also have an SA and am staying with a bunch of other folks from Ohio and beyond and every year we make more and more friends who have one common goal which is to enjoy their rotary :-)
