View all option for threads

Hey,

I've been spending a lot of time reading www.garagejournal.com/forum/ lately, and one thing I really like is that they have an option for "view all" when looking at threads. What I mean is, when you're in a section and looking at all of the available threads, any thread that has more than one page has the option to look at page 1, 2, 3, ... view all. If you click view all, it shows you all of the posts in that thread at once without have to click through various pages. For those of us with a fast internet connection, it's really nice, especially for longer threads.

Anyway, it appears garage journal uses vbulletin too, so I was hoping that maybe it's a simple option for you guys to turn on. Thanks!

Some sections of the forum had hundreds if not thousands of threads. Enabling this forumwide could result in decreased performance. It's a neat idea for smaller forums, but for a forum of our size it isn't something that is desirable as a default option. We can check with the IB Admins to see what type of effect it might have, but I would bet it will not be something that we would implement.

You can howver go into your "User Control Panel" > "Edit Options" area and look for the "Thread Display Options" and increase your default view to 50 threads per page. This might help a little bit.

No, no, sorry. I wasn't suggesting a 'view all' option when looking at the list of threads in a forum, I was suggesting a 'view all' option when looking at the posts in a given thread. For instance, suppose a given thread has 50 replies. That would normally cover 2 or 3 pages. With the view all option, I could just see all the posts in that thread with having to click through the pages.

Even with this, I would still expect no more than 20 or 30 threads to show up when I view a given forum.

Again, you can go look at garagejorunal.com/forum for an example.
