How to track do scammer and to get members involve?
 

I got scammed $300 and nobody on this forum give a damn! Is there anyway we as a forum HELP each other against scammer? Like try to give information (like sold something to that person and have his mailing address). I feel this club just turn the other way when members are being scammed by newbies.

Legally, they can't promote vigilantism. I expect this thread will be locked/deleted soon.

Send a PM to Rx-7Doctor regarding the details of the situation and see if he has any ideas.

We have a feedback section, however that is only as good as the people who use it.

I only buy from people I know and trust, that's the number one way to help yourself from being scammed.

The few times I've bought from strangers I require a verified paypal account or a photocopy of an ID and a verifiable address.


We actually do more to deter scammers than ever before, so I'm unclear as to how you feel we are turning our heads to the issue.

What do you really expect to be done? Are you suggesting we register and screen sellers? Please share your thoughts.

DKJ- As far as I know, from what jamespond24 is talking about is from ctribb01. Apparently he is finally shipping out parts, but is taking forever.

I still haven't heard from him since the last time he posted on the gg/bg section. I tried sending him pms and emails without any response.

Sorry but I was directing to whereiscarmensandiego cause he's a new member and he's selling stuff. I think we must have a system like they do on the supraforum on selling. what do you think?

Never Got it. I have been consistently trying to get him to send it since June and he has quit responding to me. I even offered to arrange a fedex pickup at my own expense after I had already paid him for shipping.

Shipping out parts, my ass. Just like the last FIVE times he said he was shipping out parts, right?

Still haven't seen my refund from that cocksucker.

I have been involved in many of these issues and banned numerous bad sellers on this site since I took over the Bad guy forum over a year ago.

Many of these investigations I have spent countless hours gathering information and in most of these instances these members that I helped didn't even have the common courtesy to say thank you. Nor did they make an effort to follow up and let me know what was going on.

The biggest issue here is that members do no take any precautions to protect themselves. They don't bother to do any checking on a member. They don't ask for tracking numbers or when the member is going to ship the part out. They don't follow up and make the seller accountable. You guys should be getting contact phone numbers from sellers if you are not sure of them and that means even getting a work phone number if you have to . Get verifiable home addresses, do whatever it takes to protect yourself. Start being proactive instead of "Reactive".

I constantly see bad guy threads where the buyer has waited weeks or even months to bring the issue to light. The problem is that a lot of you guys are just plain lazy and don't make an effort to post up feedback

Even if i havent been scammed on the forum (maybe not yet) i believe registerring the sellers would be a good idea. Requesting a valid identification that will be kept safe from identity theft will be great. If anything happens and the seller appears to be a scammer, you will know where to find him.

many sellers will not agree with my opinion. Some of them might be worried for the online identify theft etc which is totally understandable.Thats why i mentioned that each persons id should be kept safe and some others wont do it because they will be afraid that will get caught.

Sounds like a good idea, but it seems to me it would open the "holder of the ID's" up to a lot of liability, should something actually happen to one of those people who gave the forum their ID information.

Instead of us developing a registration database of all the sellers (and buyers) and trying to keep it updated (which would be an insane amount of work for people who are "volunteers") why don't you guys just require that type of ID from the people you purchase from yourself. That's what I do and I have yet to be scammed. Anyone who can't supply a picture of the parts (I get them to post a pic of the parts I'm buying with my userID in the pic) or snap a quick picture of their ID isn't worth doing business with to begin with.

The classifieds are something that are practically more trouble than they are worth to begin with, developing any such system (which could easily be defrauded to begin with) is just a bunch of wasted effort.

As it was said previously, creating some type of database not only increases our liability but also would create a false sense of trust. While AJ and his team do the best they can to keep the buying (And selling) community safe from scammers the point is that selling items over the internet is still a "buyer beware" situation at best.

I wouldnt trust showing my id to anyone just like that, I would show it to an admin who is responsible for that hoping that my details will be kept safe .

Photoshop can do miracles nowadays so sending my user id in the parts pic doesnt really help.

Why register the buyer aswell? if the buyer sends the money what id check would you need to perform? Its not like buying alcohol or cigarretes :P

I believe this idea will take a lot of efford due to the amount of sellers but once its done i believe the scams will dissapear.
